Mission Statement

Our Mission is to promote climbing among children and youths with special needs. We propose a range of activities in which climbing becomes a method of achieving life skills, self-confidence and social insertion of youth with disabilities. We advocate to introduce climbing at national level as a non-formal method of learning, focused not on a peculiar type of ability – as the traditional method does – but on acquiring physical, mental, social and emotional ones, through adaptive, often ludic techniques. By a positive discourse and by promoting the success stories from Climb Again, we wish to influence the common perception about youths with disabilities potential and increase their social insertion – either by direct integration of those for whom climbing becomes vocational, or indirect, by becoming a recognized member of the society. Overcome the impossible - This is the Climb Again philosophy, in which young people with special needs learn how to regain their independence and live on their own. Climb Again Association is a non-governmental organization affiliated with the Romanian Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (FRAE), founded in 2014 and led by Claudiu Miu, former Balkan climbing champion. Since 2014 Climb Again has been organizing free sessions of climbing therapy, as well as free sessions of kineto, physiotherapy and psychotherapy for children and young people with disabilities, as well as for their parents. The association has the mission to create and promote a framework in which children and young people who are visually impaired or have special needs reach their full potential by practicing a sport - climbing - with a focus on developing independent living and social integration skills. We propose activities in which sports climbing becomes a method of developing life skills, increasing confidence in their own strengths and social integration of young people with disabilities. Climbing is one of the sports that generates the easiest flow state - to live in the present and to focus 100% on what you are doing at the moment. It is a state where the limits and the usual fears have no effect, the blockages disappear and we manage to express our potential to the maximum. For the blind, it is a time of detachment from all problems and overcoming fears, including fear of judgment and other people's perception.
