Mission Statement

Snoop's mission is to produce and promote investigative and explanatory journalism in the public interest. We tell our readers the complete and unaltered truth, as best we can uncover it. Our main goal is to create journalism with impact. We strongly believe in the media's mission to report the facts that affect the lives of communities, individuals and institutions. We evaluate our work by the impact it has on society.

About This Cause

Snoop.ro is an independent, nonprofit publication launched on June 4th, 2024, dedicated to investigative journalism. We officially operate through the ASSOCIATION "Article 31 - Investigative Journalism in the Public Interest" (ASOCIAȚIA „Articolul 31 – Jurnalism de investigație în interes public”). Our newsroom was formed by journalists who left one of Romania's largest newspapers, Libertatea / Libertatea.ro, following a months-long scandal in which journalists refused commercial interference in the paper's editorial policy. Part of that team came together to create Snoop. Now, we are 8 full-time journalists and we also collaborate with freelance journalists. Though we are a young publication, Snoop’s journalists bring extensive experience. They are award-winning reporters, with two of them featured in the Oscar-nominated 2021 documentary Collective. These journalists worked on the Hexipharma investigation following the Colectiv nightclub fire in Bucharest, in which 65 people lost their lives. In the first four months since our founding, Snoop published one of Romania’s biggest investigations of the year: the case of a famous university professor who sexually abused female students for decades. The professor has since been removed from his position and is currently under house arrest, as a criminal investigation is ongoing. This investigation was picked up by the entire Romanian media, with Snoop being the most cited source in July, August and September 2024. Our site content is free for the public, we have no ads, and we are funded exclusively by donations. Our language of publication is Romanian but we also have English versions for some investigations. We have a partnership with HotNews, an established Romanian news site, to share our investigations and reach a broader audience of hundreds of thousands daily.
