About This Cause

Valentina Romania association was created in 2002 in order to help disadvantaged families living in Ferentari neighborhood (5th District of Bucharest) getting out of poverty. A day center was opened in 2006 with an emphasis on the school abandon prevention for children between 7 and 18 years old. Valentina Association’s objective is to offer the families a chance to break from the cycle of misery being convinced that it will be through education and school – concrete help for the children beginning at a very young age. For these families who show a strong determination, Valentina is ready to undertake: the co-responsibility in the children education with academic help, regular contact with the schools, growth and global development of the child including medical, hygiene and psychological help. Many children join our program in preschool, as our experience shows that exclusion begins in first grade, if children do not attend preschool. The goal of Valentina is to develop the whole family in its diverse composition. We wish to help them reject exclusion and rediscover dignity by a stable family life, a job or professional training, by helping to find resources as well as dealing with their housing needs. Valentina participates by financing professional training and providing help to improve the family’s habitat when necessary. Our actions : For children between 3 and 6: we pay the canteen and the supplies at kindergarten for 60 children each year For children between 7 and 18: At the day center “Casa Valentina”, after-school support and a hot meal are provided to 40 children, of which some are now teenagers. Keeping these children in school is vital to their well being, representing a big challenge every day. For adults Valentina does: Home improvements (roofs, bathrooms, general cleanliness and hygiene); Donations distribution: food, clothing, furniture and household appliances on a regular basis. For the whole family: Our social assistants and our psychologist provide specialized guidance to the families in order to help them improving their life. We are aiming to help 100 children and 82 families, with a budget of €150,000 per year. Every year we identify new needs and our mission is to meet those needs. The strategic axes for 2024 are: • Professional guidance of preadolescents and adolescents in the day care center • Digital education • Cultural education • Education for the environment • Emotional health • Education for health • Education for a healthy lifestyle
