Mission Statement
We are the Young Initiative Association from Romania and we were founded in 2009. In time, we realised what we do best: empowering people through education. We empower orphaned children to become more independent and creative, we empower young people to discover their potential and live up to it, we empower charity organizations throughout Romania to become better at what they are doing and improve their communities.
About This Cause
Our work is focused on 3 strategic pillars: Social Inclusion, Youth Empowerment, NGO Development. All have as the main foundation our passion for empowerment through education, which is the mission of each of our programme. What we do and who will you help with your donation: - Institutionalised children and youth living in orphanages in Bucharest A child is abused every day in Romania. Some of them suffer from neglect or are directly abused and end up in a state institution. Our role is to provide educational support with the help of our volunteers, in order to develop their skills and creativity in a non-formal way. We currently support over 30 children and young people from several centers in Bucharest, by providing educational services through non-formal education. We work with children aged 6 to 14 and we support them with over 20 volunteers. - Small Romanian NGOs We empower more than 100 NGOs throughout Romania by providing innovative and free tools: we offer a free venue that can be “rented” for NGO activities or meetings, an online MOOC course on NGO management and youth policies, an NGO library, a board game for NGO strategic planning. We now offer all these services for free thanks to contributions such as yours that help cover the costs. - Young people aged 18-25 Romanian young people face a wide skills gap, putting them at a distance from the needs of the labour market. We provide soft skills learning support, as well as a creative hub where young people can go and learn and work for free, in partnership with a local library. We also propose public policy in our work areas, such as in the youth field or on social inclusion. One example is the White Paper on Youth Homelessness in Romania (also available in English), an award-winning project which brought the issue for the first time in the spotlight with an inclusive institutional approach which managed to focus the attention on the beneficiaries and the potential solutions for the challenges they are facing.
