About This Cause

Little People's main program is called "I'm Not Afraid!". It is the result of more than 20 years of activity, concentrated in the first standardized and structured intervention program for children with cancer in Romania. The psychosocial support services provided by the Little People Association reach the largest number of children and adolescents with cancer, being available in all 9 major regional treatment centers, providing a standardized approach consistent with the psychological and emotional needs of children with cancer, young people and their families. The "I'm Not Afraid" Program pursues specific therapeutic goals and is based on medical therapies using expressive art with medical equipment, art therapy, dramatherapy and emotional therapy, giving children and young people the opportunity to learn in a non-intrusive way everything about the medical procedures, familiarizing them with hospitalization, medical staff, facilitating the normalisation and increasing the compliance to the treatment, diminishing anxiety and stress lever associatied with medical procedures and all other aspects of the illness. Programs for Young Cancer Survivors: The Temerarii Annual Summer Meeting, the largest meeting for young Cancer Survivors in Romania, also offers the right context for interaction and dialogue with participants from different cultures but who have faced similar experiences and facilitate their participation to workshops meant to help them develop, but also to learn advocacy and leadership, to find new friends, to relax. Within the camp, the General Assembly of the Temerarii is the only event of its kind in the country destined to young cancer survivors from Romania. The Christmas Gala Temerarii is an exclusive event dedicated to young survivors, being organized annually to celebrate their successful stories in a magical winter-specific holiday setting. In the presence of doctors, specialists and supporters, young people relive the joy of having a year without cancer.
