Mission Statement
Petnica Science Center (PSC) is the largest independent nonprofit for extracurricular science education in Southeastern Europe. Since 1982, it has organized 3,000+ seminars and research camps for nearly 50,000 students and teachers across 15 disciplines, including physics, astronomy, biology, and chemistry. PSC’s flexible, exam-free programs are designed mainly for high school students and adapt to current science topics, fostering curiosity and independent thinking. Using a peer-to-peer model where university students mentor high school students, PSC promotes scientific literacy and helps students learn to apply the scientific method. Students conduct research, analyze results, and present findings at PSC’s annual conference, with selected projects published in proceedings. Each year, around 1,500 high school students from Serbia and the region attend programs, spending about 35 days on campus. PSC’s network includes 2,500 associates, lecturers, and peer educators from over 450 institutions. PSC’s campus near Valjevo includes a dormitory, restaurant, labs, an observatory, and a library with 50,000+ publications and digital resources, providing meaningful hands-on research opportunities.
