Mission Statement
Vikimedija Srbije is a non-profit association, whose goals are to promote and support the creation, collection and reproduction of free content in the Serbian language exclusively in a non-profit manner. The ultimate goal is for all people to have equal access to knowledge and education.
About This Cause
Vikimedija Srbije (english: Wikimedia Serbia) is a non-profit legal entity, internationally recognized as a national local chapter included in the Wikimedia movement. It is registered in Belgrade and it is carrying out its activities within the territory of the Republic of Serbia. The work of Vikimedija Srbija is fully transparent. It is obtaining its funds from membership fees, grants, donations and by applying for financial support of its projects. All the financial resources are used to achieve and promote its statutory goals including coverage of the costs of the everyday work in accordance with the normative acts of the association. With the aim to achieve its goals, the association: - reproduces and supports the reproduction of free content in digital or any other formats contributing the development of international Wikimedia's projects; - collects, publishes and distributes information regarding free content; - participates in resolving scientific, social, cultural and legal problems related to free content at the local, national and international level; - collects and researches scientific and expert literature about information technologies, information society, free content, lexicography, encyclopedism, journalism and other fields included in international Wikimedia's projects; - organizes professional gatherings, advisory meetings, seminars and other forms of professional education in the area of free knowledge; - publishes pro bono publications on free knowledge issues; - co-operates with universities, professional associations and other national and international organizations focusing on free knowledge issues. Within its mission and activities, Vikimedija Srbije realizes three programs, through which it intensively works to promote volunteering and integrate the Wiki Platform into the work of educational and cultural institutions. 1. Through its Education program, Vikimedija Srbije cooperates with schools, faculties and organizations dealing with (non)formal education in order to introduce Wikipedia to ever-increasing number of pupils, volunteers and students. In addition to the students, active participation is also taken by teachers and professors in order to modernize their teaching, work on their professional development and enable students to improve their skills. 2. The greatest share in raising awareness on free knowledge is held by cultural institutions (museums, libraries, archives, and other institutions of public importance), which started the cooperation throughout our GLAM program. The mentioned institutions have very important cultural heritage in their archives, which they are sharing through Wikimedia projects and thus increasing their visibility. 3. The goal of Community Support Program is to increase the motivation and active participation of the community (volunteers) in Wiki projects.
