About This Cause
The MHF was established on 28 July 1999 and its mission is to promote and safeguard our shared Malay heritage for all. It supports research and documentation efforts on Malay society, heritage and culture, and in collaboration with the National Heritage Board (NHB), oversees the Malay Heritage Centre (MHC) located at the historic building Istana Kampong Gelam. The MHC Museum showcases exhibitions, interactive workshops and guided tours all year round. Between 2012 and 2019 (prior to the outbreak of Covid19 pandemic), our National Monument welcomed and hosted almost 5 million visitors, both locals and overseas visitors to Singapore. As part of its efforts to strengthen research and documentation, MHF has also introduced a publication series, masterclass lectures and online webinars to help bridge the knowledge gap and facilitate intergenerational transfer of knowledge about the community’s cultural heritage to a wider audience. These resources are made available on our social media channels, making it accessible to everyone. To engage and empower our youths we provided an internship programme and awarded their academic excellence. Then, we started a youth-led discursive platform and launched a new recognition scheme to motivate and inspire them to stay on the path of becoming our future changemakers. Finally, we extended these conversations to youths from diverse backgrounds as they are our future stalwarts and agents for social change and progress. To date, more than 1,200 youths from diverse backgrounds have benefited from these programmes and initiatives. We are committed to reaching out to more youths in the upcoming years. Moving forward, it hopes to do more through partnerships from important stakeholders at the community as well as the national level. Please refer to Annex A for a more detailed information about MHF.
