SAM champions contemporary art in Southeast Asia, in active dialogue and collaboration with artists, partners, and audiences; through our collection, educational outreach, research and thought-provoking exhibitions.
About This Cause
The Singapore Art Museum opened its doors in 1996 as the first fully dedicated visual arts museum in Singapore. Since then, we have built one of the world's most important collections of contemporary art by artists from Singapore, Southeast Asia and Asia. We are committed to creating meaningful encounters with art for all our visitors, through our exhibitions, research, publications, educational and outreach programmes.
Audiences can extend their experience through complementary and exhibition-related education and public programmes such as:
- exhibition-related public programmes and workshops
- educational programmes and workshops which cover a diversity of art trends and contemporary art practices for all ages
- outreach programmes outside of the museum to schools, community centres, and partner locations for the differently-abled community
In 2019, our two museum sites in Singapore closed for a building redevelopment. With the aim to create an architectural landmark for contemporary art in Singapore, this undertaking includes the preservation of the buildings' heritage architecture. When SAM re-opens, visitors can look forward to an iconic museum space where the public can experience and engage with contemporary art.
