About This Cause

From a humble beginning of providing pro bono Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) within the premises of Cheng Hong Siang Tng, Cheng Hong Welfare Service Society (CHWSS) was officially formed in 2004 to help the disadvantaged, needy and destitute in the society. It was officially registered with the Registrar of Societies and subsequently granted Institution of a Public Character status by the Commissioner of Charities in 2004. In 2005, CHWSS became a full member of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS). Apart from providing TCM services across the island from 7 TCM clinics, a Medical Centre and a mobile clinic serving islandwide, CHWSS also opened a wellness centre at Ubi within Willing Hearts’ premises to promote active ageing and a healthier lifestyle for the elderly in 2014. Aptly named Willing Hearts Cheng Hong Wellness Centre, well-rounded activities such as karaoke courses and other activities are conducted daily for the elderly. In 2012, under the leadership of Mr Lim Hang Chung, and a small group of volunteers, CHWSS strived to help poor, needy and isolated elderly with their afterlife arrangements. The initative was later renamed Afterlife Memorial Service (AMS) to better reflect the nature and scope of the project. With the establishment of AMS, CHWSS became one of the first charitable organization to serve the elderly in this area regardless of their race, language or religion. It is due to the generous support from the public that CHWSS can provide this holistic service to its beneficiaries and only with continuious support, CHWSS is able to stay true to its mission of ‘Committed to serving our community’.
