Mission Statement

Relieve the suffering of those in need, and create a better world for humanity through our Four Missions of Charity, Medicine, Education, and Humanistic Culture.

About This Cause

In 1966, Tzu Chi was founded in Taiwan by Dharma Master Cheng Yen. From its humble beginnings in the rural east coast of Taiwan, Tzu Chi’s footprints of Great Love have spread to more than 95 nations worldwide, and it is now an international NGO with Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC). The seeds of Tzu Chi’s Great Love from Taiwan took root on the shores of Singapore more than 20 years ago. As a registered charity and an Institution of Public Character (IPC) in Singapore, Tzu Chi Foundation (Singapore) raises funds from the public and uses the donations it receives to promote organised charitable activities, medical services, humanistic education and culture to meet the local society’s needs and demands. **Mission of Charity: Responding to the cries of the suffering with Great Love** We provide aid and care to the needy, regardless of race, language or religion. Our beneficiaries range from kidney patients requiring short-term assistance to needy households that need long-term care and financial aids. Each month, our volunteers will visit all our beneficiaries and care for them in the spirit of compassion and Great Love. Currently, our Mission of Charity services/programmes include: Long/Short Term Aid, Assistance for Kidney Patients, Medicine Subsidies for HIV/AIDS Sufferers, Institutional Visit, Bursaries for Tertiary Students. **Mission of Medicine: Safeguarding Life and Health with Love** With the goal of providing patient-centred healthcare, we currently manage three healthcare establishments: Tzu Chi Free Clinic, Day Rehabilitation Centre, and Lakeside Family Medicine Clinic. Services offered by these institutions include internal medicine, TCM, dental care, eye and health screening, physiotherapy, etc. In addition, the Foundation has launched home medical, nursing and palliative care services as well as home rehabilitation and TCM services. **Mission of Education: A Lifetime Mission of Unconditional Giving** The Tzu Chi Teachers' Association, Tzu Chi Collegiate Youth Association, Tzu Chi Teenagers' Class, Parent-Child Bonding Class, and Great Love Mothers Team conduct activities designed with the aim of inculcating moral values and developing wholesome character in the younger generation. In addition, we run two child care centre and a student care programme which focus on children's all round development, teaching independent living skills, helping the children cultivate good living habits and develop self-reliance and self-confidence. In line with the emphasis on life-long learning in Singapore, the Tzu Chi Continuing Education Centre offers a variety of courses that provide enrichment opportunities for lifelong learning and accepts students with ages ranging from 5 to 80 years. Apart from imparting knowledge and skills, the courses help to enhance students’ spiritual and emotional well-being in the midst of life’s hustle and bustle through a focus on humanistic values. Youths are the future pillars of a nation. The Humanistic Youth Centre (HYC) is a new, non-profit startup by the Tzu Chi Foundation (Singapore) that aims to bring about a positive impact on the youth community and groom future leaders for our nation. Our vision is to set up a platform for young people to realise wholesome values, get connected with one another and the society, and contribute towards a sustainable community. It features a comprehensive range of facilities and activities catered to nurturing and shaping young minds. Ultimately, we hope to empower youths to create positive social impact locally and internationally through the centre’s various programmes and activities. **Mission of Humanistic Culture: Purifying human hearts and bringing infinite joy to humanity** We strive to promote the “truth, beauty, and goodness” of humanity through various forms of media, including publications, digital and social media platforms, etc. **Environmental Protection: To Save the World, We Must First Heal Our Minds** Every third Sunday of the month is Tzu Chi Environmental Sustainability Day. Presently, there are close to 40 Tzu Chi community eco points island-wide and an Eco-Awareness Exhibition in Singapore, where over a thousand volunteers with ages ranging from the very young to the very old work to protect the environment. The eco points have become meccas of knowledge about environmental protection for schools, enterprises, and other NGOs, which have sent students, staff and/or volunteers over to learn about recycling and conservation.
