About This Cause
Saigon Children’s Charity CIO (saigonchildren) is a UK-registered organisation founded in 1992 to help disadvantaged children get an education and a fairer start in life. Saigonchildren works exclusively across the whole of Vietnam to overcome barriers to education for children, including poverty, geography, knowledge, and disability. UK Registration Number: 1157774 (by Charity Commission for England and Wales) Vietnam Project Office: 63/CNV-VPĐD All of the organisation’s accounts are audited and published annually on our website. Saigonchildren core programmes: • Building Schools & Learning Environments: building public schools (mainly kindergartens and primary schools) in remote areas and improving existing ones. • Getting Ready For Work: providing training in English, computer skills, art, and vocational courses, as well as other employability skills workshops. • Child Development Scholarship Programme: giving scholarships to disadvantaged children, including school fees, a monthly rice allowance, stationery, school uniform, insurance; plus access to a range of individualised help and advice. • Special Needs Education Programme: helping small, local, front-line organisations working with children with disabilites by providing grants, equipment, advice and training to build capacity and knowledge. Provide free early intervention therapy for children with autism from underprivileged families, and build capacity for trainers, practitioners and parents on autism spectrum disorders. Our Philosophy: At saigonchildren, we believe that all children should have the right to fulfill their potential, and that a measured amount of carefully targeted help can make all the difference. By focusing on the educational needs of disadvantaged children, we are able to achieve positive change for them. We measure our results through the numbers of children going to school, graduating from school, going to university and those ¬finding decent jobs. Since our inception, we have followed these principles: • We help the children in greatest need. • We foster independence and avoid creating dependency. • We never replace the responsibility of parents, the authorities, or the child.
