Mission Statement
HumanCoop is deeply committed to improving the lives of communities in the world’s most neglected and underserved areas. We work hand in hand with local institutions to foster development rooted in social justice, gender equality, and sustainability. Our long-term approach focuses on building healthcare systems managed by local institutions. We prioritize empowering local personnel and implementing activities such as: - Improving living conditions in underserved communities. - Collaborating with local institutions to promote sustainable, equitable development. - Training local healthcare professionals to manage and sustain healthcare services. - Implementing health promotion and disease prevention initiatives. - Promoting community health education focused on both health and environmental awareness. Our approach is holistic and human-centered. We don’t just provide solutions; we equip communities with the knowledge, tools, and resources to build a healthier future. And at the heart of it all? People helping people. Every contribution fuels sustainable change. Join us in making healthcare accessible to all.
About This Cause
HumanCoop is an organization born from the passions and concerns of a diverse group of volunteers, with extensive experience in various African countries. We are a team of healthcare professionals, including family doctors, internists, pediatricians, gynecologists, ophthalmologists, dentists, as well as nurses, assistants, laboratory technicians, immunologists, pharmacists, veterinarians, and acupuncturists. Our team also includes non-healthcare professionals such as engineers, mechanics, lawyers, administrative staff, and journalists. HumanCoop evolved from the DentalCoop project, which operated in the Liberated Territories of Western Sahara between 2014 and 2020. Initially focused on dentistry, the project expanded in 2017 to include other medical specialties, forming HumanCoop in 2020. Our NGO conducts health missions four times a year, along with medium-term programs, all aimed at empowering local communities and improving healthcare access. Between 2014 and 2020, we organized 30 multidisciplinary missions, providing medical care, training for local health professionals, and collecting epidemiological data. Over 6 years, 300 volunteers mobilized to provide more than 10,000 consultations, helping train 80 local healthcare workers, donating medical supplies, and improving healthcare in underserved communities like Bir Leh Lu, Tifariti, and Mijek. In 2021, after the COVID-19 pandemic and the Sahrawi refugee crisis interrupted our work, HumanCoop launched a pilot mission in Bir Moghrein. This mission focused on healthcare needs assessment and laying the foundation for a Community Health Project. We provided medical services such as general medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, and dentistry at the local Bir Moghrein Health Center. Our team of 15 professionals conducted 400 consultations, working closely with local authorities to establish a sustainable healthcare model. Since 2020, HumanCoop has conducted 13 missions in northern Mauritania’s Tiris-Zemmour region, improving medical services in Bir Moghrein and Zouerat. We focus not only on healthcare services but also on education, covering areas like hygiene, disease prevention, sexual and reproductive health, and child nutrition. We also focus on the school environment, promoting disease prevention programs for conditions such as intestinal parasitosis, oral health, and ocular diseases, while training teachers as health agents in their communities. From a community health perspective, we are working on veterinary interventions, analyzing the current state of livestock care, and proposing improvements in the animal life cycle. These efforts will positively impact the livelihoods of local herders and their families. Finally, from an environmental standpoint, HumanCoop is collaborating with other organizations and associations to potabilize and channel water of existing wells located on the outskirts of Bir Moghrein. This initiative aims to improve irrigation for local gardens, ensure clean water supply and sanitation at the local health center and school, and enhance the community's overall well-being. At HumanCoop, we are a family—People who connect with People. United by a common goal, we are committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of underserved populations, often in areas neglected by conventional humanitarian efforts due to isolation or harsh living conditions. Every volunteer, every donation, and every action helps us continue our mission of improving healthcare and empowering communities. Are you ready to join us in changing the world?
