Mission Statement
ENGLISH: Our mission is to make quality and inclusive education accessible for all through our educational centre based in Beirut, Lebanon. We know that education is the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty, but for doing so education must not only be free, but also equal, inclusive, flexible and of high quality. At 26 Letters, we provide our beneficiaries with holistic and adaptable educational services that not only strive for the academic success of our students, but also for their well-being, as well as the well-being of their families. This is because at 26 Letters, we understand the undeniable relation between education, well-being, financial stability and a healthy family environment and, therefore, provide our students and their families with support in every aspect of their life. / ESPAÑOL: Nuestra misión consiste en conseguir una educación inclusiva y de calidad al alcance de todos, todas y todes a través de nuestro centro educativo en Beirut, el Líbano. La educación es la herramienta más poderosa a la hora de romper el ciclo de pobreza, pero para que sea efectiva esta no solo debe ser gratuita, sino que también debe ser igualitaria, inclusiva, flexible y de alta calidad. En 26 Letters entendemos que la educación está estrechamente interrelacionada con condiciones externas como el bienestar, la tranquilidad y la estabilidad económica y un entorno familiar saludable. Por ello, nuestras personas beneficiarias se benefician de servicios educativos holísticos y personalizados que no solo se centran en conseguir su éxito educativo y profesional, sino también su éxito personal y el bienestar no solo suyo, sino también de sus familias. En otras palabras, el objetivo principal de 26 Letters es asegurar el éxito educativo de sus estudiantes mediante programas integrales centrados en cubrir no solo sus necesidades educativas, sino también sus necesidades humanas fundamentales.
About This Cause
ENGLISH: 26 Letters is a non-profit organization based in Beirut, Lebanon, that provides free high-quality education accessible for all. At 26 Letters, we adapt our services to the concrete needs of our beneficiaries, which allows us to welcome everyone regardless of their context, nationality and physical, mental or social condition. Despite not having a specific target group, due to their uniquely difficult situation in Lebanon, most of our beneficiaries are Syrian refugees residing in Lebanon. Currently, we work with a total of 700 vulnerable persons, but the number of beneficiaries is set to rise on a daily basis. At 26 Letters, education is not only free, but also equal, fun and meaningful. We are experts in curriculum development and in alternative approaches to education. Our students benefit not only from a customized educational program that adapts to their unique schedules and interests, but also from an own developed curriculum that adapts to their needs, aspirations and preferences all the while promoting ethical and moral values. Because we develop our own educational material, we take special care in ensuring that it incorporates important themes, such as diversity, female empowerment and equality, with the aim of promoting awareness, understanding and respect. Besides, our educational programmes do not only guarantee accelerated learning, but they also ensure that students learn in a positive and safe environment that provides for their positive social-emotional development. Given that most of our beneficiaries have lived through war and come from marginalized communities, our educational mission goes beyond academic achievement to encapsulate effective emotional and social healing, as well as inclusion and cohesion between people from different backgrounds. At 26 Letters, we understand education as a powerful tool in changing lives. However, in order to be effective, education cannot be perceived as an isolated process. Education is interconnected and dependent on many conditions such as physical and emotional health. This is why 26 Letters takes a genuine multidimensional and comprehensive approach to education, by integrating a wide range of services that aim to ensure the wellness, and not only the education, of our children and their families. Thus, 26 Letters provides its beneficiaries with projects that aim to meet their needs at all levels including but not limited to educational and vocational support, emotional and psychosocial support and health care support, as well as social and financial support and work opportunities. In 2020, the collapse of the currency and the critical inflation in Lebanon made basic commodities such as food and medicines inaccessible. As a way to adapt to the new needs of our families, we also started to provide each one of them with a personalized humanitarian aid box containing the food, medicines, sanitary and hygiene products, as well as the baby products, that they need every month to survive. --- ESPAÑOL: 26 Letters es una organización sin ánimo de lucro española que lucha por una educación gratuita y de calidad al alcance de todos, todas y todes en Beirut, el Líbano. En 26 Letters adaptamos nuestros servicios a las necesidades concretas de nuestras personas beneficiarias, permitiéndonos dar la bienvenida a todo tipo de persona independientemente de su contexto, nacionalidad y condición física, mental o social. Aunque no trabajamos con un grupo objetivo en concreto, debido a que el Líbano es el país con más refugiados per cápita del mundo, la mayoría de nuestrxs beneficiarixs provienen de familias refugiadas sirias. En total trabajamos con 700 personas vulnerables, aunque este número aumenta considerablemente cada mes. Nuestros servicios educativos no solo son completamente gratuitos, sino que además son igualitarios, eficaces y de alta calidad. En 26 Letters somos expertxs en desarrollo curricular y en métodos educativos alternativos. Nuestro alumnado se beneficia de un programa educativo personalizado que se adapta los intereses y horarios concretos de cada estudiante, garantizando una enseñanza eficaz y particular. Además, en 26 Letters también creamos nuestros propios libros, lo que nos permite no solo adaptarlos a las necesidades, preferencias y aspiraciones personales de cada estudiante, sino que también nos permite integrar en ellos temas éticos que promuevan la concienciación, el entendimiento y el respeto hacia todo tipo de diversidad. Nuestro centro educativo es un espacio seguro donde estudiantes de todo tipo aprenden juntxs de manera rápida y eficaz mientras se desarrollan social y emocionalmente. Dado que la mayoría de nuestras personas beneficiarias han pasado por situaciones de guerra, marginalización y abandono, nuestra misión educativa va más allá de su éxito educativo, persiguiendo además una recuperación social y emocional efectiva que favorezca su inclusión social. En 26 Letters entendemos que la educación es una herramienta para cambiar vidas. Sin embargo, para ser efectiva, esta no puede entenderse como un proceso aislado. La educación está íntimamente relacionada y es dependiente de condiciones externas a ella como la salud física y emocional. Por ello, en 26 Letters abordamos la educación desde un enfoque multidimensional y holístico mediante la integración de una gran variedad de servicios centrados en garantizar no solo la educación de nuestros estudiantes, sino también su bienestar y el de sus familias. Nuestros servicios incluyen: servicios educativos y formativos; servicios de acompañamiento, asesoramiento y de remisión de casos; servicios de apoyo psicosocial y emocional; servicios de financiación de tratamientos médicos y operaciones; y servicios de orientación y formación profesional y creación de oportunidades laborales. En 2020 el colapso de la moneda oficial del país y la crítica inflación en el Líbano imposibilitaron el acceso a productos básicos. 26 Letters se adaptó a las nuevas necesidades y circunstancias de sus personas beneficiarias a través de la provisión mensual de cajas personalizadas de ayuda humanitaria.
