Mission Statement
Our organisation focuses on the development of rural communities and on empowering the role and representation of women in society. To this end, in addition to direct intervention in the communities in the areas of health, education and economic development, we have created Radio Mulher de Bafatá with the intention of giving voice and promoting the presence and development of women, who are one of the most important assets and also one of the most forgotten.
About This Cause
The organisation started to develop its projects in 2006 in the village of Candemba Uri in Guinea Bissau. Initially, a nursery school and a health centre were created and later the school was extended and now has 3 classrooms and 105 children attending school. In addition, an agricultural cooperative run by the women of the village was set up and a chicken farm has been built and is run by the cooperative. In the year 2022, we have enabled a 4 hectare plot of land for cultivation of the cooperative and we are building a solar well and a 30,000 litre tank to irrigate the land and extend the cultivation time to the dry season. In 2018 we inaugurated Radio Mulher de Bafata, a radio project run entirely by women and supported by the UN. Ten women make up the staff of the radio station and have managed to become a reference in the country. This year, the organisation has signed an agreement with the University of Seville for the training of Radio Mulher's workers and in the future we want to turn the radio into a journalism training centre for the country. This year we have also extended our projects to the city of Bafatá. We have improved the pedestrian access to the regional hospital and will soon improve the access for vehicles. We have also built a washing place by the river and we have installed some motor pumps to irrigate some vegetable gardens near the river Geba. We have also built public toilets in the city market. At the moment, we are developing a vocational training project and we have started with a blacksmith workshop and construction of wells in January 2022 and soon we will create a cooperative blacksmith workshop. Our idea is to extend the training to other fields demanded by society. Our funding comes mainly from public and private donations, membership fees and documentary films made by the members of the organisation themselves in a totally altruistic way.
