Mission Statement
We love stealing smiles from sick kids enduring cancer, we want them to think about doing what any other child does: playing:)! We make the process of their illness a little easier to bear by giving them consoles, tablets and video games that people no longer use and donate to us. By doing this we achieve our main goal! While you play, chemotherapy will fly away.! In almost five years we have delivered more than 2,000 consoles and 10,000 video games in 85 national hospitals and 11 non-hospital institutions.! We have also reached Portugal, E l Salvador, Morocco, Guatemala, India and Afghanistan.!
About This Cause
Juegaterapia is a foundation whose purpose is to improve the lives of children with cancer. Children who are going through harsh chemotherapy treatments that often leave them unable to even go down the hall to do something as natural for their age as play. Well, since they cannot go out to play, we bring the games to their rooms. And what better tool than that magical world that you peak at each time you connect to a video game?! The first day we gave a console to a child we saw how his face changed, how he became encouraged and how, for a moment, the disease ceased to be important. We firmly believe that improving their mood, positively influences their attitude to face their healing process.! ! Furthermore, at Juegaterapia we are convinced that hospital rooftops, those grey and unused spaces, can become precious spaces for playing. So, in 2013, we decided to build a garden on the rooftop of “Hospital La Paz” in Madrid and, thanks to the collaboration of a lot of anonymous people, we were able to make it come true. Today it has become alive and we are extremely proud of our achievement.! We’ve opened a second garden at “Hospital 12 de Octubre", we are building a new one this year at “Hospital La Fe" in Valencia and we are raising funds for a fourth one, which will be located at the Maternity Building of the Gregorio Marañón Hospital in Madrid. After that one, we will go up to transform another rooftop. And then another. And another. Until all admitted children can play, whether in front of a screen or under the rays of sun. ! Whichever they prefer.!
