The Pita López Foundation's mission is to “Improve the quality of life of adults with DCA and their social environment, who lack financial resources to access a private center and cannot opt for a public center. Our social work is carried out through a transdisciplinary team that offers individualized and specialized attention” The Foundation has a 2021-2025 Strategic Plan and its vision is "A reference organization in care for people with ACD, capable of offering the appropriate resource for each stage of the evolutionary process to the greatest possible number of beneficiaries, supporting their environment and raising awareness to society”.

About This Cause

The Pita López Foundation was created in 2008 after an analysis which concluded that people with Acquired Brain Injury do not have the necessary public resources to have Comprehensive Rehabilitation in the months following the injury, a very important period of time to achieve the maximum autonomy and quality of life. “Independence and Quality of Life for people with Acquired Brain Injury and their Families” Brief Summary: The project provides multidisciplinary rehabilitative health care to people who have suffered Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and their families, with limited economic resources who cannot opt for a private or public center, to promote maximum independence and quality of life in the first year after brain damage. The Foundation provides them with this comprehensive rehabilitation on a subsidized basis. Objectives: To improve the quality of life of people affected by Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and their families, enabling maximum independence of people in their daily activities, and social and labor reintegration, through the Rehabilitation Center and the Center at daytime Rehabilitation Center Capacity: 15 simultaneous places – Awarded Framework Agreement 10 Day Care Center Capacity: 45 simultaneous places – Awarded Framework Agreement 25 The Foundation and its projects: The Pita López Foundation is a non-profit organization that offers a specialized care option to anyone with acquired brain damage who has not been admitted to the State Brain Damage Care Center and who does not have financial resources to opt for a private center. The purpose of the Foundation is the rehabilitation, social integration and support of both people affected by brain damage without economic resources and their families, promoting both their personal independence and self-esteem as well as improving their quality of life. All the services offered by the foundation will be adjusted in price (based on coefficients) according to the economic capacity of the patient, reaching zero cost in cases where it is necessary. The Foundation will subsidize the % of the cost of rehabilitation required by each person. It is made up of several projects and specific services or lines of action that complement and jointly promote the recovery of the person during the first 12 months after injury, the most important period of time for recovery. Actions are also carried out to improve the quality of life of family members in order to alleviate the caregiver's burden and the presence of emotional disturbances secondary to the intensive care of the person with DCA.
