About This Cause

Phumelela is a not for profit organization, registered in the Kingdom of Eswatini and the UK. Established in 2016, it focuses on providing cultural appropriate mental health services to all citizens of Eswatini without discrimination based on their experience, gender, religion, race, sexual orientation, or identity. Our Mental Health programs focus on Gender-Based Violence, Suicide Awareness & Prevention, Drug & Substance Abuse, as well as Rehabilitation/Reconciliation of youth in conflict with the law. Services: 1. Providing client-centered counselling and support by experienced counsellors who have handled diverse cases with a high level of confidentiality and following all ethical standards in their practice. We also offer behavioral self-control session to reduce legal and illegal drug use following a curriculum. 2. Walk'n'Talk: This activity gives beneficiaries the opportunity to partake in an outdoor and nature based wellbeing activity, leading to improved mood and resilience, less anxiety, and positive emotions. The process of talking about what’s on someone’s mind in an alternative setting will allow for more openness in conversations surrounding mental health and encourage help-seeking behaviors. 3. Facilitation of Trainings/Workshops: Tailor made trainings on several topics such as basic counselling skills, mental health, drug and substance abuse and/or Psychological First Aid, Positive Parenting, Suicide Prevention.
