Mission Statement
SwissLimbs believes that "Walking is a Basic human right that should be accessible to all people, everywhere." SwissLimbs is a Swiss non-profit organization working in low income countries to provide access to advanced mobility to the disabled, through donation of artificial limbs, the training of local health professionals and the establishment of ortho-prosthetic structures.
About This Cause
SwissLimbs is a Swiss based non-partisan, non-profit, association with the aim of restoring mobility to persons with disabilities in low-income countries. It focuses on providing artificial limbs and establish Ortho-prosthetic infrastructure as well as training and empowering local technicians to bring innovative solutions to real needs. SwissLimbs, offers a range of products and services, ranging from Prosthetic services, training to orthopedic technicians and supply of machines and materials in areas of most needs. SwissLimbs has two main purposes: - Our team believes that walking is a basic human right that should be enjoyed by all people worldwide. We intend to satisfy a global humanitarian need with an affordable and economic viable solution. Our team would like to make a difference in the lives of millions of amputees in the developing world and in the process reshape the global prosthetic industry. The Social Need According to the World Health Organization (WHO) 32 million people worldwide live maimed of one or more limbs. 80% of these amputees live in developing countries, where less than 5% are fitted with an artificial prosthesis. Hence, over 24 million amputees are not fitted with a prosthetic limb. The lack of materials, adequate facilities and skilled training, contribute to the need in a very significant way in the developing world. The Solution Currently, the need for prosthetic legs alone makes for up to half the urgent demand in developing countries. There are no adequate artificial legs that meet amputee demand because the available technologies are either (1) expensive and high-end created to meet the demand in the Western world, or (2) cheap but often uncomfortable and poor quality. The lack of appropriate technologies to meet the significant demand in the developing world results in small adoption rates. Hence, there is an enormous need for affordable prosthetic legs designed to meet the needs of amputees in low income Countries. SwissLimbs Products and Services SwissLimbs adopts the SwissLeg MonolimbTM Techonolgy as a primary solution; an innovative Transtibial prosthetic leg, which offers high-mobility to amputees at a minimal cost. It also provides all other P&O solutions such as a modular adaptatioin to the Transtibial, Transfemoral with a selection of knee joints for all terrains and climates and materials and machineries for the equipping of full orthopedic workshops. The hallmark of SwissLimbs in all of its services is the low-cost approach without compromising quality and functionality, brought through specialized training from its experts. Competitive Advantage of the MonolimbTM Technology The innovative MonolimbTM Technology – the entry point to a solution based approach in prosthetic services – distinguished itself from other providers in at least four distinctive areas: Out of the main types of competitors (bionic technology, standard technology and the low-cost technologies) SwissLimbs has a clear advantage on many levels because it is: 1. Cost Effective – It costs at least half what is currently available on the market 2. Fast to produce – In just 3-4 hours form evaluation to fitting the patient can walk and run. 3. Accurate – The innovative alignment process allows perfect casting, resulting in best fit. 4. Lightweight – It weighs 40% less than prostheses in its category (1,5 kg) thanks to the light copolymer and only 3 components necessary. Astonishing results: the amputee can walk, run, and do sports easily with a SwissLimbs at the lowest cost worldwide as witnessed in the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WParSZn4UdA&feature=related Swisslimbs grew from one prosthetic leg solution in one nation, to a complete range of Orthopedic and Prosthetic solutions in 5 nations.
