About This Cause
Asha for Education is a non-profit organisation dedicated to bring education to underprivileged children in India. Asha Zurich was established as an Asha chapter in 2002. Like all our chapters worldwide, we have no paid staff and no office rent. Hence we are able to keep a very low overhead for administrative expense. This minimal overhead is typically covered through contributions from volunteers. This is a key factor that distinguishes us from many other organisations. Currently Asha Zurich is supporting the education of more than 2,000 underprivileged children through six projects in India. All project locations are in remote areas, where public education is either non-existing or is dysfunctional. We regularly evaluate new projects and onboard only the most deserving one through a very rigorous vetting process, including a physical site visit. The projects are managed on site by our partners, with whom we make annual Memorandum of Understanding, based on the project budget and the criteria defined by us. A committee of volunteers is elected every year in Zürich, which manages the administration, including fundraising, project management and raising awareness to the broader public. We are also organising an annual site visit to the project in India, to make sure that an impact is being made with our support.
