Mission Statement
AVAID is a Swiss ngo, charity, tax exempt, based in Tessin, Lugano, and working in international cooperation since 1995. The mission of AVAID is to support human dignity in difficult situations, particularly in poverty, paying special attention to the children and their basic needs: food, health, education, holistic care. AVAID is founder of AVSI foundation, and member of its network of 60 ngo’s covering about 50 countries, and is member of FOSIT. AVAID donors are Swiss private families and groups, and, to a lesser extent, public Swiss institutions.
About This Cause
Founded in 1995, AVAID reaffirms its founding values while adapting to contemporary challenges in times of polycrisis. The organization focuses on the dignity of the person and supports the most vulnerable, such as children, by promoting access to education and basic services in Kenya, Uganda, Ecuador, Brazil, the Middle East, and more countries. AVAID’s dedication to education is evident in its support for various educational initiatives, including Manaus Agri School and Obras Educativas Padre Giussani in Brazil; Fundacion Sembrar in Ecuador; Little Prince School, St. Kizito Vocational Training in Nairobi, and St. Riccardo Pampuri in Mutuati, Kenya. These interventions include early childhood education, basic education, non-formal education, and vocational training for youth and their families. To enhance efficiency and effectiveness, AVAID collaborates with local partners who operate within the "last mile" in poor communities. This partnership approach facilitates mutual growth and capacity building. This collaboration is clearly reflected in the Distance Support Program, where Swiss individuals, families, or groups support children within specific projects. Through the Distance Support Program, AVAID supports approximately 550 children and their families in Kenya and Brazil. AVAID strengthened its relationship with the AVSI Foundation, of which it is a founding member, to enhance its potential through experienced partners. Through AVSI, AVAID participates in a network of about 50 partners in around 40 countries worldwide. Volunteers are a vital resource for AVAID, with over 50 people in Switzerland raising awareness and funds. The organization’s annual Christmas fundraising campaign, "Tende," is shared with the AVSI network, involving most of AVAID's volunteers. AVAID's steering committee consists of volunteers and one staff member handling projects, fundraising, and administrative tasks. AVAID’s financial statements are certified according to Swiss GAAP standards. The managed funds amounted to an average annual budget of 750,000 Swiss francs. AVAID communicates with donors through reports, its website, Facebook, and newsletters. AVAID is a member of the FOSIT Association and is tax-exempt by authorization of Swiss authorities.
