Mission Statement

Empowering orphaned and vulnerable children to break cycles of extreme poverty, AIDS and spiritual brokenness through family-based care and discipleship in Jesus Christ.

About This Cause

Christ's Hope International Uganda is a non-profit, Christian organization. Our Vision: Transforming the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children in extreme poverty. Christ’s Hope Uganda (CHU) works mainly with vulnerable and disadvantaged children, in the Bweyogerere area, living in extreme poverty, often on the edge of local society. Many of the children live in ‘makeshift housing’ and unstable shelter without one or both parents. Family life may be severely disrupted due to the impact of persistent poverty, unemployment, chronic illness and HIV/AIDS. Our aim is to help the children live successfully in the local community by: • Ensure child is safe from abuse • Enhancing personal well-being and health • Ensuring access to education and schooling • Providing opportunities to build positive social relationships • Participation in a Christian community In doing this we hope to break the poverty cycle and provide the children with an avenue that enables them to be self-reliant, escape potentially abusive situations and not be dependent on activities such as prostitution to provide an income stream, factors that have been proven to contribute to the spread of HIV/AIDS. The work of CHU takes place primarily within our Care Points located in our Ministry Centre at Bweyogerere in Kampala, where the child is supported through regular attendance for about 4 - 12 hours per week. This is where children meet to receive Spiritual, socio- emotional and physical and educational support from trained local workers. The Care Point provides: • Training in health and hygiene including HIV awareness and prevention strategies • Food and nutrition • Access to medical care • Educational tuition and support in learning linked to the local school curriculum, including: - Basic skills of literacy, numeracy, and communication - Social and life skills - Vocational skills - Counselling and mentoring - Opportunity to make friends and socialize. - Recreational activity, including sports, games, art, craft, music, dance and drama In Uganda there are currently 226 children being cared for in the care points and 14 staff members, with hope of growing in the near future.
