Mission Statement
Our mission is to welcome visitors to our Farm free of charge, and run evidence-based programmes that have a significant positive impact on both visitors and volunteers in the community.
About This Cause
Freightliners City Farm is a 2.5 acres green space in the very urban London Borough of Islington. It is a small community farm where a diverse range of people take part in farming and gardening and people can visit and spend time in a countryside type environment in the city. It is an open access space supported by donations, grants and income from farm services such as the cafe, school visits and corporate volunteering We keep a variety of farm animals including cows, sheep, pigs, goats and poultry. Many of our animals are rare and traditional breeds contributing to genetic diversity among the national herds and maintaining a link with our heritage. Our gardens provide an attractive and tranquil green space and a chance for people to discover and learn about a variety of plants. You will find fruit and vegetables, wildlife friendly and native plants, exotic and special interest varieties. With stresses of recent years including the cost of living crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic taking a toll on many people's wellbeing the farm is seeing a huge increase in need in our community both for access to green space in the inner city supporting mental health and for educational support outside a school environment. The pandemic had a significant impact across our community and we continue to see the impact on service users, staff and volunteers as well as on the farm's resources. Depleted capacity continues to impact on the farm operations and ability to raise funds. In combination with hugely increased costs of operation and ever increasing need for services We are particularly in need of donations and financial support to keep the Farm going and able to open.
