Mission Statement
Our mission is to welcome visitors to our Farm free of charge, and run evidence-based programmes that have a significant positive impact on both visitors and volunteers in the community.
About This Cause
Freightliners City Farm is a 2.5 acres green space in the very urban London Borough of Islington. It is a small community farm where a diverse range of people take part in farming and gardening and people can visit and spend time in a countryside type environment in the city. It is an open access space supported by donations, grants and income from farm services such as the cafe, school visits and corporate volunteering We keep a variety of farm animals including cows, sheep, pigs, goats and poultry. Many of our animals are rare and traditional breeds contributing to genetic diversity among the national herds and maintaining a link with our heritage. Our gardens provide an attractive and tranquil green space and a chance for people to discover and learn about a variety of plants. You will find fruit and vegetables, wildlife friendly and native plants, exotic and special interest varieties. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the farm is seeing a huge increase in need in our community both for access to green space in the inner city supporting mental health and for educational support outside a school environment. The pandemic has had a significant impact across our community including our regular volunteers and participants, young people and families with young children and our staff who have worked to care for the farm site, animals and beneficiaries throughout the past 2 years. Closures and space limitations initially stopped our onsite income generation and whilst opportunities begin to open up again the significant needs for social support and our depleted capacity continue to impact and have drastically reduced our income. We always welcome all donations but at this particularly difficult time they will keep the Farm going and able to open whilst we rebuild our capacity.
