Mission Statement

The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust is unique - we are the only specialist NHS Trust in the UK dedicated to providing comprehensive neurology, neurosurgery, spinal and pain management services. Our specialist staff offer a world-class service in diagnosing and treating injuries and illnesses affecting the brain, spine and peripheral nerves and muscles, and in supporting patients suffering from a wide range of long-term neurological conditions.

About This Cause

The Walton Centre treat over 100,000 patients per year with conditions including head and spinal trauma injuries; tumours of the nervous system; epilepsy; MS; motorneurone disease and parkinsons. We help to support the work of The Walton Centre hospital in Liverpool by funding a variety of projects which help improve patient care and services. These include innovative equipment; research; as well as improved facilities for our patients and families. We also support staff with enhanced training opportunities to ensure they remain at the centre of clinical and research developments. We are a friendly team who can offer you help, advice and support for fundraising activities and events. Please feel free to contact us and we'll get right back to you. Some of the projects we have supported here are: Home from Home – Onsite Relatives Accommodation Our Home from Home has been provided by the charity, for relatives who need somewhere to stay after a patient has been admitted for urgent treatment. There are eight ensuite bedrooms including two larger rooms which are suitable for families and for those with a disability. The Fairclough Family room offers sofas, TV and a kitchenette and dining area; and there is a quiet room for anyone who would like a private space to relax. There is a laundry, fully equipped for washing and drying; and free wifi for easy internet access. The Home from Home is provided free to families who need it, thanks to our charity supporters. It costs approximately £50,000 per year to run the unit. Robotic Arm: In 2016, we raised £250,000 to secure a Robotic Arm for the hospital. This is a state-of-the-art system developed to increase the accuracy and safety of a number of neurosurgical procedures - it's comparable to a 'GPS' for the brain. Animal Assisted Therapy: Thanks to your donations to our CRU Fund, we have helped provide therapy sessions with a difference for patients on the Complex Rehabilitation Unit. A successful three month pilot introduced animal assisted therapy. Patients would take part in sessions every two weeks with all kinds of animals, from rabbits to bearded dragons, for patients to interact with. The Occupational Therapy team identified goals for patients, such as starting conversations about the animals to improve their speech or stroke an animal with a weaker hand to strengthen it, which contributed towards their rehabilitation. iPads with Communication Software: We invest in new technology to give patients with brain injuries a voice when they have difficulty with speech, through iPads with specially developed applications which enable them to communicate with staff and family members.
