About This Cause
One Community is an independent charity providing voluntary sector support and community development in Hampshire. It also provides care services, information and community transport in Hampshire. Our aim is to improve the quality of life for the people we serve, particularly older people, carers, young carers, and people with disabilities, through the work of our various projects. One Community help children, families, disadvantaged, disabled and/or older people remain independent and engaged in their local community. Our services either help support individuals or voluntary groups directly or we can signpost you or someone you care about to the right service. If we don’t know the answer we can help you find it. Our Projects and Services: Options Options offer a range of services including Personal Assistance for anyone who has a disability, or who is unable to do their own basic housework, and needs to find a reliable home help at reasonable cost, on a short or long term basis. Our Home Support Workers can do general housework: vacuuming, dusting, cleaning bathrooms/toilets/floors/windows, changing beds, washing, ironing and shopping. We also run a Take a Break Respite Service, registered with the Care Quality Commission, offers carers a few hours respite from their caring responsibilities each week. Trained staff provide stimulating and therapeutic activities for the cared for person, or a trip out in the car, perhaps for coffee and cake, depending on their capabilities and interests. Personal care can be provided if needed. This service also includes a Day Centre Service. One Community has six day centres, which offer a wide range of activities for older people to help them to live independently, meet others and socialise, while providing respite to carers. The day centres cater for people who have dementia or physical disability. Refreshments and lunch are provided and transport can be arranged. It also includes Lifeline, a telephone linked support service designed to maintain a safer lifestyle and the independence of clients while bringing peace of mind to relatives and carers. In an emergency, the client presses a panic button, worn on the person, alerting by telephone a 24-hour control centre where assistance can be summoned immediately. Key safes also provided and fitted. And lastly our Back to the Future service, where we support isolated people back into their local community, encouraging them to rejoin or start new activities where they will meet people and socialise. Our aim is that people can go between services seamlessly. Young Carers The Young Carers Project offers support to young people aged 8 to 18 years who live in the Borough of Eastleigh who are caring for someone in the home with a physical disability, long-term illness, learning difficulty, mental health issue, or substance misuse problem. The project gives young carers time out from their caring role and the opportunity to make friends with other young people in a similar situation. The project aims to empower young people and provide them with positive experiences in a safe and fun environment where they are free to be themselves. We support our young carers through regular youth clubs, choir, activities and trips in the holidays, emotional support in school, lifeskill sessions, and other opportunities such as residentials. One Community Transport The Community Transport scheme provides group transport for community and charitable organisations who are registered members of One Community. They might be youth groups, sports clubs or older people’s lunch clubs. Our volunteer drivers regularly transport passengers to a variety of destinations using our fleet of accessible minibuses. The vehicles are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Connect Eastleigh Connect is a door-to-door transport service for people living in the Borough of Eastleigh who find it difficult or impossible to use ordinary bus services.
