Mission Statement

Jimmy's provides accommodation, support and resettlement for 22 men and women aged 18 to 65 - and two dogs - who would otherwise be homeless. Each year we work with over 300 unique individuals helping them to take the first steps to break away from the cycle of homelessness.

About This Cause

Jimmy's was founded as a night shelter in 1995. At that time the offering was basic - evening meal, bed, breakfast and showers. We opened at 7 in the evening and closed our doors at 9.30 in the morning. This meant that although basic needs were met, still these vulnerable people were on the streets all day, whatever the weather. In 2012 our service changed dramatically. Officially opened by HRHs the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (Kate and William), we now operate a full 24 service, 365 days a year. We provide initial emergency accommodation all with individual rooms and bathrooms, a full programme of daytime activities and specialist staff and visiting agencies. Our guests are provided with support tailored to their needs. The support programme includes finding more suitable accommodation, support for alcohol, drug or mental health issues, services for ex-forces personnel, visiting nurse, legal drop-in surgeries, sessions with the Samaritans and HIV/Hep workers. In addition we offer activities including life skills (money management, cooking, keeping healthy for example) as well as sports, arts and crafts, photography, philosophy, music and debate sessions. We do this with the help of over 150 volunteers, and the countless donations and support from across all sectors of the community.
