Mission Statement

‘Better Lives, Stronger Communities” Our mission is to bring the skills and experiences of our communities together to build a better Hackney.

About This Cause

We support and enable people across Hackney to volunteer and share their skills, resulting in people making new connections, gaining in confidence and mental wellbeing, and stronger more vibrant communities. We work with people of all ages and backgrounds, but in particular people with mental health issues, providing tailored individual support to enable people to start volunteering whether with an established community organisation or through sharing their skills with other residents. We run our own befriending service, matching volunteers to very isolated residents, the majority of whom have anxiety and depression and are unable to leave their homes. We deliver employment support, and work on estates to help people develop and run their own projects to benefit their local neighbourhood. Such activities have included an after school club, a stay and play group, bring and share meals, and are led by residents, who often have multiple support needs and complex life issues. Since COVID began, we have recruited and supported over 1000 volunteers to help deliver food and prescriptions to local residents, deliver online support to people from home, and most recently, help support the vaccinations programme. We also recruit volunteers for, and provide support to hundreds of community groups such as food banks, local hospices, gardening clubs and youth groups, in volunteer management; and source them volunteers with the right skills they need to deliver their services.
