About This Cause

Age UK Lindsey is a small, community based, independent charity and brand partner of the national Age UK charity. We have a high percentage of staff, volunteers and Trustees who have a lived life experience of being older people in the Lindsey area and we provide services in the Lincolnshire district council areas of East Lindsey and West Lindsey and also North Lincolnshire, covering an area of 3766km2, with large areas of rurality and coast, as well as some key urban towns; Skegness, Mablethorpe, Louth, Horncastle, Caistor, Market Rasen, Scunthorpe, Brigg and Barton upon Humber. In our coastal areas we see some of the highest health inequality levels in the UK with life expectancy lower than the national average and older people facing issues of poor health, loneliness and social isolation, fuel poverty and low incomes. These issues are also prevalent in rural areas and we therefore prioritise our services to try and address these issues. Age UK Lindsey has been supporting older people for over 30 years and we deliver a wide range of services in the home and in local community venues. Being a local charity, we rely on local support for a significant part of our income, and we deliver a wide range of services and support to local older people and their families including a free confidential Information and Advice Service, which last year secured over £2 million pounds of unclaimed benefits for older people, a free Befriending Service, Social Activity Groups, Safe and Warm Homes projects, Scams and Fraud Awareness projects and Digital Inclusion projects. We are currently delivering a Warm Homes project, which aims to help and support older people to maximise their income, improve energy efficiency and stay safe and warm in their own homes. We are assessing all older people contacting or referred to our charity and for those identified as most vulnerable and in greatest need, we will offer person centred practical support to improve their income and ability to pay bills and give advice on how to improve energy efficiency. Over the last winter we delivered over 2500 Winter Warmth packs to the most vulnerable older people containing tea, coffee, cup a soup, fleece blanket, hot water bottles, hand-warmers, thermal socks, hot/cold insulated cup, flasks, draft excluder, plug in night light, thermometer and advice leaflets. These packs made a huge difference to older people and the feedback to our charity was incredibly positive. During the winter we also carried our home energy checks to make sure older people could reduce heat inefficiency and save money. Age UK Lindsey is a charity led by the needs of older people in an area with above national numbers of over 65's.
