Mission Statement

The Seahorse Trust is an environmental, educational, research and conservation charity that has been set up as an umbrella organisation to preserve and conserve the natural world using Seahorses as the flagship species and to educate others about the natural world. As part of our commitment to the conservation of the natural world, we will undertake educational and indepth research work in the field and in captivity that will help to conserve the natural world, especially with but not exclusively seahorses and our knowledge collected will be open to those who share our values who need or want our help. This we hope will break down barriers and help to move conservation forward more quickly. We aim to work in partnership with nature and others to the betterment of the natural world as a whole. We will bring to the attention of others and fight for the future of our planet, using seahorses as our flagship species, helping us to protect our planet for future generations.

About This Cause

On a day-to-day basis The Seahorse Trust as an environmental conservation charity works with seahorses as its prime species to actively undertake, conservation, education and research to allow us all to protect and enhance the natural world. We focus on seahorses and the marine environment but consider the world as a whole and encourage others to do the same. Without working together for the whole of the planet, then we will not survive as a species, and so we look at all aspects, from the environment seahorses live in, to the illegal trade in seahorses, from habitat destruction, to understanding more about these incredible fish and their remarkable behaviour. Our volunteers are our backbone and without them we could not do so much. By gathering data and actively working together we can advise governments and others on how to protect seahorses and the environments they live in. This joined up approach means we make a difference, whether this is getting British Seahorses recognised as British and legally protected, or putting forward and making sure Studland Bay (and other sites) became a Marine Conservation zone, or even taking the British Government to a Judicial Review, and winning, over the poor legal situation with Environment impact Assessments for oil rigs. We disseminate our knowledge to others through publications, newsletters, social and main stream media and every avenue we can, so others can understand the plight of our seahorses and natural world. We make a difference to the planet by working with others but there is so much more to do and this is why we work, ‘In partnership with nature’
