Create is the UK’s leading charity empowering lives through the creative arts. We focus on engaging society’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable people in inspiring, sustainable programmes in areas where provision is poor and engagement in the arts is therefore low.
About This Cause
Create provides the most disadvantaged and vulnerable people in the UK with free access to collaborative creative workshops, led by professional artists. The charity works with disabled children and adults, older people at risk of social isolation, young patients, young and adult carers, homeless people, victims of domestic abuse, offenders in prison and other marginalised people. The creative arts (music, photography, filmmaking, drama, visual art, dance, writing) are used to develop each participant’s confidence, self-esteem, social skills and trusting relationships. Create’s vision is for a fairer, more caring, more inclusive society in which everyone’s contribution is valued. Most projects are collaborations with community partners, which have specialist knowledge of local priorities and the participants that they exist to serve. Every project is designed to enable our participants to develop creativity, learning, social skills, self-esteem and, above all, a sense of self-worth. Some programmes bring different groups of participants together to break down barriers and develop shared understanding; some enable people to explore social issues. All help to create a society that is fairer, more caring and more inclusive.
