Mission Statement
Our aim is to help and support vulnerable young people access housing, improving their future employment options, safety of living, stability and security. We do this by building relationships and offering consistency of support in a safe environment. Young people are empowered to identify their requirements and devise strategies to meet these needs. For example, we offer support and guidance to help them develop the skills needed to reengage with employment, develop social skills to fight social isolation, and offer budget management advice to enable them to manage a tenancy effectively. Our aim is to help people find a home and keep it. To live independently and start to think about the future.
About This Cause
The Basement Project is a small, local charity that supports young people up to the age of 25 at risk of becoming homeless, who are homeless, or who are in crisis. The support we offer is free, non-judgemental and centred around the needs of each individual. We offer a drop in service; floating support, when we go out and support young people in their own homes; mediation to re build relationships; counselling from a qualified counsellor and a food bank, offering toiletries and home starter packs where needed. Our beneficiaries include young parents, young people experiencing mental health difficulties, relationship breakdowns, domestic violence, or are care leavers. In the 18/19 financial year we supported 173 local young people in North Worcestershire alone with our drop in service and floating support, and gave out 374 food parcels. From February 2020 the number of beneficiaries has increased as we have expanded to cover the whole of Worcestershire. We are also piloting a mediation service in high schools with 13-16 year olds to help with conflict resolution between parents, as well as between peers. We regularly offer talks and workshops to schools and community groups to raise awareness, and in the 18-19 financial year we engaged with over 2000 members of the community.
