Mission Statement
Vision Statement A vision of growing the movement of leaders who work to ensure that kids growing up in poverty get an excellent education and Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. Mission Statement As a transformative group, we aim to ensure impoverished children have access to education and habitable living conditions because HUMANITY and LOVE win.
About This Cause
Sylvia Lanka Foundation was established in the United Kingdom to help educate vulnerable children in Sri Lanka. Unlike in European countries, children do not receive grants or loans from the government to start or maintain their primary education or the financial support to move into and sustain a University education. We aim to provide these children with scholarships until they complete graduation from the university. In our programme, we supply school bags, shoes, and educational materials each year beginning. The majority of these children are from single parents, do not have a decent income, or suffer from long-term illnesses. Therefore, they are unable to provide for their children's education. Through our mission, we aim to introduce educated & responsible people to this society. Our initiatives have a direct impact on people with low incomes. We aim to bring together people who care about the less fortunate. By heeding humanity's call, we can positively impact the lives of impoverished children. Through our actions, we gradually eradicate illiteracy among marginalised people and those affected by natural disasters. Three subsequent generations will directly feel the impact of education on a poor child. Our actions will also improve children's daily living conditions by providing food, clean drinking water, and primary healthcare. We are confident that we'll reduce the rate of malnourishment among children as well as underage deaths. Creativity and innovations hold the key to the future. Empowering poor children to showcase their innovations gives them opportunities and platforms to maximise their potential. Mr Vernon Udugampola's (Our Chairman) dream to impact the lives of poor children became a reality when he founded the charity in 2004, initially under the name 'Sylvia International Relief Foundation (SIRF).' As a charismatic and kind-hearted man, Mr Vernon was deeply troubled by children's impoverished lives, particularly after the aftermath of natural disasters. He coordinated with his immediate family and registered the initiative as a UK Charity Commission, naming it after his beloved mother. Mr Vernon's humanitarian actions have not gone unnoticed. The Queen of England awarded him the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his gracious acts. Mr Vernon had been through thick and thin to raise funds for the charity. He collected donations by running six marathons in six countries, numerous half marathons, and 10-kilometre races in the UK and abroad. He has also been liaising with relatives and well-wishers to gather as much help as possible. WHAT WE DO Education Did you know that millions of children risk losing out on their education? This saddening reality is triggered by socioeconomic inequalities presented by various circumstances worldwide. At Sylvia Lanka Foundation, we have prioritised supporting impoverished children in acquiring education like other children. We believe all children are equal and should have equal opportunities. Food for the Hungry Imagine an innocent child going for more than two days without eating; what a miserable life! Food is one of the fundamental determinants of a person's well-being. There are more than 690 million people globally who are undernourished. This disturbing figure has prompted us to strive to identify needy people and provide them with food to the best of our ability. Filtered drinking water WATER IS LIFE!! Everyone has the right to clean drinking water. However, a considerable population lacks access to clean water, exposing them to diseases such as cholera and typhoid. Therefore, we are responsible for implementing water filtration projects in disadvantaged communities and vulnerable populations. Innovation for children The world is full of innovative and creative children who lack opportunities to explore their potential fully. At Sylvia Lanka Foundation, we aim to identify talented children and empower them to develop innovations that will benefit their communities and societies fully. Healthcare Aid For marginalised communities and victims of natural disasters, access to primary healthcare is a big challenge. This has led to the misery of diseases and many preventable deaths. At Sylvia Lanka Foundation, we acknowledge the challenge and pledge to step in and offer as much help as possible.
