Mission Statement

Inspiring people to use and share permaculture. We are working to share skills and knowledge about permaculture, so that more people can apply it to their homes and gardens, community projects, local businesses, schools, farms and smallholdings. By increasing the number of people applying permaculture we can demonstrate practical ways for people to take action on sustainability, biodiversity and climate change and help to create a more sustainable and regenerative world.

About This Cause

Permaculture is more than just a different way to garden. It’s a fresh perspective inspired by nature that helps us make better-informed choices which give the planet and its people the best chance at flourishing. At the Permaculture Association, we are pushing permaculture to new frontiers, connecting people and places to make change happen and grow the permaculture community. We do this by supporting change makers to positively transform society. As an education charity we provide a range of support to improve the reach and impact of permaculture education. This includes supporting our educators with their continuous professional development through events, resources and tools; providing learners worldwide with an outstanding and regularly updated curriculum and online learning; offering a diploma in permaculture. Our educators have high standards for providing lifelong transformative education, reaching into communities, schools, Universities, towns and city councils. We are here to help more people do more permaculture, and our membership scheme is a way of keeping people in touch with current projects and events in the UK and around the world, get support for projects at home and in the community, connecting with like-minded people, and work together on common challenges and opportunities. The Projects and LAND network is the Permaculture Association’s community of practice for those who run permaculture inspired projects or are interested in starting their own project. The LAND network was set up in response to the realisation that many people learn through seeing and doing. In order to make permaculture accessible to as many people as possible, we needed to have a way of sharing learning without people having to commit to doing a full permaculture design course. A LAND Centre is a permaculture demonstration site that people can visit to have an experience of permaculture design and techniques in practice. LAND stands for Learning, Action, Network and Demonstration. There are now over 40 LAND Centres in the UK, all of which offer a unique learning experience. They range in scale from domestic gardens and allotments, to community gardens and orchards, to established food forests and large scale regenerative farms.
