About This Cause
Lighthouse Furniture Project Ltd is a Charity and Social Enterprise that has been alleviating poverty within the communities in Essex and Outer London by providing low-cost furniture and appliances since October 2004. Every year we support 5,000+ households, supporting 2,800 households with further reductions or items free of charge. We achieve this by collecting then selling donated furniture and appliances from the public which diverts 350-400 tonnes of items from landfill each year. In addition to our store in Brentwood, Essex we have a workshop based in Chelmsford, Essex where we fix used appliances in order for them to be sold at low cost to those in need. As well as selling low cost appliances and furniture to those in need, each year, as part of our charitable activity, we give away £15,000/£20,000 of furniture and appliances to the most vulnerable in our community. We regularly support families fleeing domestic abuse, as well as those in poverty that have no means to purchase the furniture and appliances they need. We also apply a discount to support those on low incomes to make the items even more affordable. Last year that discount equated to £55,000 of revenue. We are however facing our own cost of living crisis and need financial support in order to achieve our goal of helping as many families as we can across the county. Like everyone we have to find extra income to cover the additional costs we have incurred due to the government rise in national minimum wage, and the increase in gas and electricity costs.
