Mission Statement
Together Against Cancer is a charity that started out with the same aims as we have today through our mission to educate, support and help as many people as possible to prevent and recover from ill-ness due to cancer. In 2008 ‘Together Against Cancer’ (TAC) was established as a charity. Our mission then were to help, guide and empower people through their cancer journey. This is still true today.
About This Cause
We support people to participate in a comprehensive programme of taking back control of their health. We introduce new life skills to prepare and empower people with cancer, for a positive future, in their communities, at work, and in their personal lives. We primarily address the unmet needs of a cancer patient working with other charities such as a financial and employment charities, we cannot be experts at everything, so we find experts to help us meet all of the challenging and complex needs of a cancer patient. We know what the ‘Unmet Needs of a Cancer Patient’ are from a NHS study that looked at the practical, emotional and physical unmet needs. The NHS know that aftercare is not being met and there are very few resources to offer the cancer patient after their treatment has finished. Often the treatment causes many long-term health problems physically and emotionally. Our objectives is helping people with cancer to improve, recover and live well with cancer and delivering our free services however we can, in our Wellness Centre, Online and via the telephone. Our objectives are to deliver what people with cancer urgently need, for example: • deliver therapies to help people through their diagnosis and for their aftercare, • deliver education to people for awareness of cancer and looking after their health, • delivering mental health wellbeing through workshops, counselling, group therapy, • delivering physical health wellbeing though workshops, exercise classes, nutrition, • delivering practical support through therapies to reduce restrictive movement and provide a safe environment for them to express their concerns. Since opening the Wellness Centre in 2016, the charity has provided thousands of complementary therapy sessions and thousands of educational workshops in addition to supporting people with cancer with activities such as yoga, tai chi qigong and walking groups, counselling sessions, nutrition and wellbeing coaching sessions and one-to-one calls. The charity now employs 9 people as from 2025, all work on a part-time basis. Our objective is to have people live well through Our ongoing activities and support are ever increasing as we research new therapies, new techniques, and new activities of support and healing. The continuing research of new services, identifying and increasing support and delivery comes from our aims. Our Aims is to educate, support and help as many people as possible with cancer, to prevent and recover from cancer, regardless of wealth health or location. Our future aims will take the charity to develop further and actively seek larger premises with land. Learn Learn new skills and techniques to achieve a sense of meaning, learning how to live healthier through natural healing and nutrition. Education of becoming well is the first step to being well. Learning is the first step to start to develop a purpose for life. Learning new skills are delivered through workshops such as on nutrition for practical needs or ways to manage emotional health. There would also be group and individual therapies for counselling, talking therapy and managing stress and anxiety. Learning about other new therapies such as healing the body through scar therapy which helps people after surgery with adhesions, pain, and restrictive movement. Learning takes place within the first session with a Wellness Coach who spends, on average 8 hours with each patient guiding them through their healing journey. Learning for emotional, practical, and physical support. 2. Empowerment Providing support to empower wellness, having the understanding and knowledge to be able to feel confident, make a difference to an individual’s life and be more active in the community. Empowerment will lead to making a difference at home and in work for a better healthier life. Empowerment will be through learnt activities and introductions to new ways of building confidence and resilience. Their vision of a healthier life would give confidence to move forward. Wellness Coach will help identify and change bad habits, develop new positive behaviour and attitude. This is the starting point on their journey and Ideas to change attitude & mindset. 3.
