Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide a comprehensive volunteering infrastructure service to non-profit groups and to communities in Tower Hamlets, to increase the quality, quantity and impact of volunteering in the borough. We are all about volunteering.
About This Cause
We are a small but impactful registered charity, established in 2008, and based in the heart of London's East End in Tower Hamlets. In March 2020 we began running the COVID-19 Volunteering Hub for the borough of Tower Hamlets, recruiting and matching over 3,300 volunteers to local charities and public sector bodies to help the most vulnerable communities affected by coronavirus. In 2021 we began recruiting volunteers for the COVID-19 vaccination programme in Tower Hamlets and recruited over 300 local volunteers to support this effort. SInce 2022, we have engaged volunteers to support the community to recover from the pandemic, as well as helping to mitigate the impact of the cost of living crisis by providing volunteers to help in Warm Hubs and with projects addressing food poverty. We are currently running targeted 2 programmes; METs - recruiting and training local residents from Global Majority communities, then matching them to trustee roles on charity boards. IETV - supporting residents who are unemployed, under-employed or in unsatisfactory employment to gain experience and skills through volunteering that will increase their employability. We support over 500 local charities and voluntary sector organisations by recruiting volunteers for them, and by providing training and good practice advice on running impactful, inclusive volunteer programmes. Our 5 core functions are: - Brokerage – ensuring that the general public and all sectors are better informed about and have access to an effective and efficient brokerage service - Good Practice Development – helping organisations to improve or attain positive consistency in their volunteering programmes - Developing Volunteering Opportunities - increasing and improving the quantity, quality, and diversity of volunteering locally - Voice of Volunteering – creating an increased awareness of the issues impacting on volunteering - Strategic Development of Volunteering - engagement with local networks and decision-makers to create a positive environment in which volunteering is flourishing.
