About This Cause
Since 1983, Paul’s Cancer Support has been helping people find the strength and resilience to cope with the devastating impact of cancer and its aftermath. Our expert staff and volunteers are there for anyone over the age of 18 who is affected by cancer – clients, their families and their carers. Paul’s supports people regardless of how long they have been living with any type of cancer, whether it’s coping with a new diagnosis or undergoing medical treatment, rebuilding a life as a cancer survivor or approaching the end of life. Our services can be categorised under four equally important and interdependent themes: psychological support, complementary therapies, information and structured self-management and well being activities. Ours is the most established complementary therapy and counselling service of its kind in London. We provide a range of one to one and group support therapies, from counselling to touch therapies such as massage and acupuncture, to people directly impacted by cancer and their families. We also deliver a range of workshops covering themes from nutrition to movement, from 'Chemobrain' to menopause, brought on by cancer treatments. Services may be delivered online or in person and all are provided completely free of charge. Our volunteer therapists help with the pain from the disease and the side effects of chemotherapy and radiography such as loss of appetite or the impact of nerve damage. We help with the stresses and the anxieties: the fear of dying, the unresolved issues, the saying goodbye, the family who will be left behind. We help with sleep and the absolute exhaustion. We help with the isolation: at any one time up to 60% of our clients live alone with more than half not in touch with their family. We bring relief, company and a listening ear, a chance to explore, articulate and resolve.
