Mission Statement
Clare College (founded 1326), although the second oldest College in the University, is one of the more progressive and informal. It spans the River Cam, running between the Old Schools (the administrative centre of the University) and the University Library. We take pride in having a balanced mix of students from a wide range of backgrounds.
About This Cause
All donations take us another step closer to achieving our goals: to continue providing an exceptional education to gifted young people, whatever their background, and preserve the College, its buildings and grounds for future generations. Our Current Priorities are: The supervision system – teaching undergraduates as individuals or in small groups – is the heart of a Cambridge education. By learning within this framework, our students develop self confidence, critical thinking skills, intellectual curiosity and mental agility: qualities which set them apart for the rest of their lives. Student Support: Clare students are admitted solely on academic merit, and it is our policy to ensure that all young people with the talent and intellect to study here are able to do so – regardless of background or financial circumstances. Student support through bursaries (undergraduates) and studentships (graduates) underpins this principle. Old Court: Within the next 5 years Old Court will require a significant amount of maintenance work, both to preserve the historic buildings and to ensure they remain fit for the College’s purposes. A full refit and electrical rewiring project will be implemented over a two year period, costing approximately £20 million. Clare Life: For our students, life at Clare is a very happy and unique experience and one that is treasured forever after graduation. There are many ‘ingredients’ that make Clare such a special place, and as a College we are working to maintain, support and develop these elements wherever possible.
