Mission Statement
Equation deliver education to our whole community to prevent domestic abuse and sexual violence, promote gender equality and raise aspirations for healthy, equal relationships. We provide practical tools and guidance to support the well-being and safety needs of survivors.
About This Cause
We work with children and young people in schools with our early intervention projects which aim to help educate young people about domestic violence and abuse, and stop them from becoming victims or perpetrators. Young people learn the early warning signs of an abusive relationship, discuss concepts of choice and responsibility and gain information on how to seek support for themselves or a friend. We work with approximately 6,000 children and young people every year, including their teachers. Men’s Domestic Abuse Service; Equation hosts the only male independent domestic violence advocate (IDVA) service in Nottinghamshire, we provide a helpline and one to one support to men who are experiencing domestic abuse, this will cover all areas of domestic abuse experienced by men; same sex relationships, hetro-sexual relationships, so called ‘honour based abuse’ and child to parent abuse. Training community workers; We deliver regular, free training courses to over 1,500 professionals such as police officers, health and nursing staff, social workers, and children centre staff. These courses are well-researched and highly informative and equip attendees with an understanding of how to spot signs of abuse, intervene early and take action. Our training enables workers to respond to survivors and their children more effectively by improving practitioners’ knowledge and confidence working with families where there is Domestic Abuse and Violence (DVA). Campaigns; We deliver awareness campaigns throughout Nottinghamshire to promote gender equality and support survivors of domestic abuse, campaign’s include our Reel Equality film club and our award winning Help a Friend campaign. We also provide safety information in up to 16 community languages with the helpline information for survivors.
