Mission Statement
The primary objective of the Hammersmith & Fulham foodbank is the prevention and relief of poverty in and around the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham. We aim to ensure that no-one goes to bed hungry in Hammersmith & Fulham.
About This Cause
Providing emergency food supplies to individuals in need and/or charities or other organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty. Food is collected via direct donations or via donation points across the Borough. The food is sorted by teams of volunteers on a weekly basis, and then transported to one of our three Foodbank Distribution Centres. Each food parcel contains enough food to prepare up to 10 balanced meals for referred clients and their dependants. We run Holiday Clubs in White City and Fulham during Easter and Summer Holidays for children and their families. Activities including trips, as well as crafts and games are available and a healthy meal is served. Eat Well Spend Less (EWSL) is a six-part Course teaching cooking and budgeting skills. Participants report saving up to £20 per week, on average, on their weekly shop. Feedback has also highlighted improvements to physical and mental health, as well as family relationships as a direct result of skills learned on an EWSL Course. FoodForThought is a pilot scheme that started in December 2018; offering up to six free sessions with a qualified and BACP or UKCP accredited psychotherapist, through partnership working with Anchor Counselling. Initial feedback has been extremely positive. Providing practical advice and support, either directly or by referral to approved partner agencies to individuals in need thereby enabling them to find lasting relief from financial hardship, which in turn leads to food poverty. We work in partnership with Hammersmith & Fulham Citizen’s Advice (CA), which provides benefit and debt advice to our clients. CA Advisors are present in the foodbank Mondays through Fridays, and on alternate Saturday mornings. H&F Law Centre run a weekly clinic at both our Hub@75, and in Fulham. We also run other practical and community based sessions at our Hub in W12, including a Job Club. Our volunteers signpost clients where appropriate, using our in-house signposting folders as well as leaflets.
