About This Cause
The Rockets Foundations purpose is to provide a community wide sport, health and wellbeing programme which provides weekly accessible and affordable basketball sessions which are run by fully qualified local basketball coaches. Each programme is specifically designed for each age group and runs local competition for the young people to compete in. They also provide SEN programmes for children with additional needs as well as Unified sports programmes which brings together mainstream and special needs schools. A specific mental health Initiative is also run to help use sport and education to help tackle key issues. The foundation also plants and grows community clubs in areas of social and economic deprivation. To support the work that is done in the community in sport the foundation also offers programmes to help educate the community on nutrition and how to not only eat healthily but also how to shop on a budget and cook affordable meals. This is delivered through workshops in schools, baking classes to allow the children to be “hands on” and also they work with families to help teach them how to cook meals at home for their families. The charity were also the driving force and key planners and delivers of the first Berkshire Fit and Fed camp which gave children from low income families and children on free school meals the opportunity to attend a free sports and activity camp over the summer which also provided them with breakfast, a hot lunch and healthy snacks throughout the day. The foundations work always has a family and community approach to everything they do. Their aim is to provide sporting opportunities to the whole community regardless of gender, race, ability, or social background. Their aim is to make sport affordable by keeping costs low and by putting clubs and programmes in the heart of communities to help them be more accessible. The club provides opportunities for the whole family to be involved whether this be in a supportive role or a more voluntary based role. The club is very much a community family.
