Mission Statement

TOMORROW'S WARRIORS...INSPIRING MUSICIANS | INSPIRING MUSIC "I know there are young people from a similar background to me who, if given the opportunities, can create great art. It’s not curriculum style, because what we’re dealing with is art. The individuals are artists, and I want to hear what they have to say about the world." DR GARY CROSBY OBE, Co-Founder & Artistic Director, Tomorrow’s Warriors Check out our short film at https://www.gofundme.com/iamwarrior2020

About This Cause

TOMORROW'S WARRIORS believes in a world where opportunities for participation, ownership and leadership in music and the arts are available to all regardless of one's background. TOMORROW'S WARRIORS is a pioneering talent development agency, creative producer, learning and training provider, charity and consultancy specialising in jazz. Founded in 1991 by HM The Queen’s Medal for Music recipient Dr Gary Crosby OBE and Janine Irons OBE, we help aspiring young artists from diverse backgrounds discover their magic and achieve creative ambitions. We nurture nascent talent and build engaged, culturally diverse audiences. "Tomorrow’s Warriors is right at the heart of everything British jazz is doing right. It offers fantastic young musicians a chance to learn, play and dream. I’m so proud to be a supporter." NICK HORNBY, Novelist & Screenwriter “Can’t overstate the impact Tomorrow’s Warriors has had on the jazz scene...” GILLES PETERSON, BBC 6Music "Tomorrow’s Warriors’ accessible, collaborative and passionate approach gets the most out of young people from all backgrounds and it’s most telling that all those who have gone on to secure critical acclaim internationally remain active champions, advocates and friends of Tomorrow’s Warriors." JOE FRANKLAND, Chief Executive, PRS Foundation Through development, outreach and recruitment, Tomorrow's Warriors has directly impacted over 10,000 young people aged 11-25 outside of traditional formal education. Our pioneering year-round Young Artist Development Programme hosted at London's Southbank Centre primarily supports the early careers of young artists from BAME backgrounds, female musicians and those facing socio-economic barriers to pursuing a career in the music industry. Across three decades, Tomorrow’s Warriors has provided a crucial development platform for many of the artists now tearing up the international jazz scene – Moses Boyd, Nubya Garcia, Cassie Kinoshi and Nérija, Femi Koleoso and Ezra Collective, Binker Golding, Shabaka Hutchings and Sons Of Kemet, Blue Lab Beats, Cherise Adams-Burnett, Eska, Denys Baptiste, Soweto Kinch, Zara McFarlane and many more. Tomorrow’s Warriors is pivotal in elevating UK jazz, valued by its alumni and respected by funding partners for the impact delivered through its pipeline for outstanding, diverse talent. “[Tomorrow’s Warriors] showed us how to collaborate with people you didn’t grow up with. It taught us to do things together, rather than trying to do it on your own." NUBYA GARCIA, Saxophonist & Band Leader "Music was all I had so, for many of us, Tomorrow's Warriors was a much-needed safe and positive space. People from all walks of life can come and just experience music without having to worry about financial constraints." MOSES BOYD, Drummer, Band Leader & Producer “Tomorrow’s Warriors provided a space for us to really train and weightlift, to ‘get our chops together’ as musicians say, so we were ready, well-rounded and versed in many styles when the time came to make it a career.” THEON CROSS, Tuba Player & Band Leader WHAT WE OFFER A young person with talent but without access to opportunity is a talent lost. "Thank you for the support you have given to our son over the years and the recent opportunities which have been opened to him. Your unfailing support, vision, belief and selfless sacrifice are all a major part of his personal development as a musician, even when so many of his music teachers during his school years refused to recognise him and believe in his potential. You were there for him then and continue to support him to this day. Thank you for providing the solid foundation in Tomorrow's Warriors which he and so many other young people need to become the musicians of today and tomorrow.” WARRIOR PARENT Your donations help members of Tomorrow’s Warriors rise to **extraordinary** heights and, year on year, empower and enable increasing numbers of talented young musicians, many of whom simply do not have the means to afford regular, quality training. PUTTING YOUR DONATION TO WORK As a donor to Tomorrow's Warriors, you can help to bring inspirational artists within touching distance of aspiring young musicians and provide them with transformative learning experiences in a safe, inclusive, creative space. “It’s really an organisation that cares about the entire development of the artists that they support. If [Tomorrow’s Warriors Learning Programme] wasn’t free I couldn’t have done it. I had all of the heart and none of the money, but I was just as deserving. The fact that it was free changed my life and I think it could change many other people’s too.” CHERISE, Vocalist & Band Leader BLACK LIVES MATTER Black lives have always mattered at Tomorrow’s Warriors. We celebrate and support black music culture and the rich cultural heritage of jazz. As a black-founded and black-led organisation, we play a vital role within our community and within the music industry.  We are proud to have had such a strong impact on the scene over three decades and have been credited with literally changing the face of UK jazz.  “Tomorrow’s Warriors have changed the musical landscape of Britain. It’s as simple as that.” CERYS MATTHEWS, BBC 6Music “More or less every black jazz musician who has come up in the past 20 years in the UK has been a part of it [Tomorrow’s Warriors] in some way or form. If you care about jazz music and care how the music looks not just now but how it’s gonna look in the future then this in some ways is an investment in the face of British Jazz." SHABAKA HUTCHINGS, Saxophonist & Band Leader, Sons Of Kemet Your decision to support Tomorrow's Warriors will keep the UK jazz scene richly diverse and grow its remarkable community of artists and audiences, even in the face of massive challenges to the cultural economy.
