Mission Statement
The Pear Tree Fund aims to provide support to people in the small towns and rural villages within a 15 mile radius of Halesworth, enabling people with a cancer diagnosis or other life limiting conditions and their families to be supported locally, rather than having to travel to the district general or mental health hospitals. Support is provided directly and/or through other local organisations/facilities which are appropriate. The PTF will develop to fill gaps in support as these become apparent. It will not duplicate local statutory or voluntary services but will work in close collaboration with them. The Fund will strive to offer person-centred, holistic support at times when it is needed most to people who are referred directly or who call in to the Centre or refer themselves.
About This Cause
The Pear Tree Fund, formerly known as Halesworth Community Nursing Care Fund (HCNCF), was set up to support people who are registered with Cutlers Hill Surgery in Halesworth and wish to die in the comfort and security of their own homes. The charity works alongside the NHS and social services to provide extra equipment and 24-hour care in the last days of life. Our aim is to offer emotional, physical and practical support at the time when people need it the most. We pride ourselves on helping to meet the individual needs of our patients and their families while also giving them a choice of where they receive their care as they near the end of their lives. In 2011, we identified a need to expand the services we provide and began developing plans for the Pear Tree Centre. It opened its doors in early 2020 thanks to the generosity of local people, who whole-heartedly backed a drive to raise funds for the facility. The centre provides information and advice to people who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness, as well as their families, and welcomes visitors from across north east Suffolk and south Norfolk. Our Values Commitment to providing holistic, timely support for clients and their families Collaboration with all relevant organisations to achieve the best support for our clients and their families Ensuring inclusivity in all that we do, respecting all differences – racial, social, religious, sexual identity Honesty, integrity, transparency and kindness are at the core of our work Our Aims Increased collaboration with local services – both statutory and voluntary. Increased visibility and community engagement across the area we serve. Recruitment and development of additional volunteers to support the overall service and the charity shop. Development of the staff team to meet the increasing demand. The extension of our services to some of the other small towns on an outreach basis. Development of the Pear Tree Fund funding base. Financial security is crucial to the continuation of our services. Increased involvement of our clients and volunteers in service development.
