Stories shape our world. We believe it matters how they’re told. We support journalists and filmmakers globally to tell stories that inform and connect us all.
About This Cause
1. We celebrate underreported stories that break down prejudice and connect cultures. Our One World Media Awards recognise the best media coverage of the global south. The bravery, strength and creativity of each journalist or filmmaker shines through all 15 awards categories. Watching Jon Snow interview our Special Award winner, Maria Ressa and hearing how she continues to hold the line against President Duterte, was definitely a highlight. As was interviewing our nominees for the New Voice Award, bringing together their experiences in Mexico, Yemen and Palestine. “This success was not only a motivation for me, but also for fellow journalists who consider this a victory for all Palestinian journalists. We seek out and champion aspiring filmmakers and journalists covering underreported stories. Our Fellowship is a springboard for new talent covering stories globally with integrity and creativity. The Fellows are a dynamic international cohort of emerging journalists and filmmakers. Each year we welcome 20 Fellows, with a new initiative allowing us to provide ten dedicated places for ten journalists from and based in countries across Africa. “I’ve learnt a lot through this journey. We build connections between emerging and established players in the media and international development sector. Through our annual series of events, workshops and the Global Short Docs Forum we bring together a global network of filmmakers, journalists and industry leaders. The Global Short Docs Forum is an intensive month of masterclasses, mentoring and film pitching for selected filmmakers from around the world. Joining us for the pitching days were commissioners from eight established digital media platforms, including Arte, NHK and CBC taking part for the first time. Several commitments were made and we’re looking forward to seeing the short docs launched soon. “What I love about short docs is they allow many more new voices to enter the space.
