Mission Statement
This is copied from our Governing Document and outlines our charitable purposes as published on the Charity Commission website FOR THE PURPOSES OF A COMMUNITY HALL FOR THE USE OF THE INHABITANTS OF THE PARISH OF EAST MALLING AND LARKFIELD AND SURROUNDING AREAS WITHOUT DISTINCTION OF SEX, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, AGE, DISABILITY, NATIONALITY, RACE OR POLITICAL, RELIGIOUS OR OTHER OPINIONS, INCLUDING USE OF THE PROPERTY FOR MEETINGS, LECTURES AND CLASSES OR OTHER FORMS OF RECREATION AND LEISURE TIME OCCUPATION IN THE INTERESTS OF SOCIAL WELFARE AND WITH THE OBJECT OF IMPROVING THE CONDITIONS OF LIFE FOR THE SAID INHABITANTS
About This Cause
We are small charity based in the village of East Malling; we are located adjacent to a large area of mainly social housing in the most deprived wards of Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council. The estates have multiple levels of deprivation with high levels of multigenerational benefit dependency, low levels of educational attainment, poor health outcomes (particularly mental health). There are many single parent families and families which are no economically active. We exist to provide activities, services and opportunities to address these issues and raise the aspirations and improve the life chances of local residents (particularly children). We work closely with the neighbouring primary academy and nursery as well as the Children Centre based on site. Our activities include a Community Cafe serving healthy food at reasonable prices, lunch club for the elderly, craft and chat group, free afterschool clubs for children and their families, breakfast clubs during school holidays to help address food poverty, a Community Larder (food bank) supplying fresh food (including meat, dairy products, fruit, vegetables etc), tins and packets, cleaning and hygiene products, nappies, pet food etc), toddler group, exercise classes,yoga, chair based exercise, healthy walks, karate, dance classes, a learning space for young people with learning difficulties, Community Cinema, advice sessions, volunteering opportunities, work experience.
