Mission Statement
We are a charity with one clear mission, to Fix The Digital Divide - for Good. We want everyone to have the internet access they need, everyone to have somewhere local to go for help to use the internet, and everyone to feel able and safe in the online world.
About This Cause
Good Things Foundation is the UK’s leading digital inclusion charity. We help people who are digitally excluded to benefit from the online world by providing access to a device, connectivity and local digital skills support. We create impact at scale working with a network of thousands of community partners across the UK and providing the resources and support they need to deliver digital inclusion in communities. Since 2010 we have supported over 4 million people to benefit from digital. THE DIGITAL DIVIDE In the UK today 1.5m adults don't have a smartphone, tablet or laptop - and - 8.5 million people lack basic digital skills (Lloyds Banking Group, 2023 Consumer Digital Index). Internet access is critical to everyday life and work, health and education. And a valuable source of information and advice about money, helping people find the trusted support they’re entitled to and useful tools. But people facing digital exclusion don’t have this access. Fixing the digital divide is an urgent priority. HOW WE’RE WORKING FOR CHANGE We have developed a comprehensive service for digitally excluded people. An offer which any local organisation - anywhere in the UK - can use to Fix the Digital Divide in their communities. The National Digital Inclusion Network: Bringing together everything we know about what makes digital inclusion work in communities. We partner with national, regional and local charities and all community organisations working with digitally excluded people, providing support, training and resources to help them respond locally. This includes Learn My Way, Good Things’ community-focused learning platform for basic digital skills, designed to make building digital confidence easy. “Learning how to use a computer helped me to do so many things. It helped me to sort out my medication, I learnt how to order my prescription on the NHS app which I didn’t have a clue how to do before. Now I know how to use comparison sites, do online shopping and more. It has helped me learn how to eat properly because my diet wasn’t great before. I improved my skills so much that I was able to become a digital mentor at the hub and now I’ve been working here for 6 years.” Minaj The National DataBank: The National Databank is a world-leading ‘national food bank for connectivity data’, providing free data to 500,000 people in need via Good Things Foundation’s network of community partners, in partnership with Virgin Media O2, Vodafone and Three. “I started crying. It was such a big thing for me, as before it [SIM card], I couldn’t speak to my husband for a time, or speak to my family. And with the laptop, I got free data which I was able to renew. So I am really very grateful for all of this. Now, I feel more free.” Zeinab The National Device Bank: Creating social impact whilst contributing to the circular economy. We can take large donations of used digital devices from organisations in any sector, recycle or refurbish these, and distribute refurbished devices to people in need, through our National Digital Inclusion Network. “...I would like to get a job and make myself financially secure for myself and family. I can use this laptop to assist me with my job search and making online applications. All of this will help me secure my future.” Jahvid TOGETHER WE CAN FIX THE DIGITAL DIVIDE Fixing the digital divide is a big task but it’s one that benefits us all – as individuals and as a society. Whatever your role there’s something you can do to help, whether that's making a donation, exploring partnership, donating your organisation’s disused devices to be refurbished and reused, or helping to raise awareness. Please join us in our mission today and help create a world where everyone can benefit from digital.
