Mission Statement
The Shaw Mind Foundation is a dynamic charity, passionate about tackling the stigma that can accompany mental health issues. Our overarching goal is to support anyone who may have lost hope; both the sufferer and those who support them. We want to ensure treatment and support is made available to everyone across the globe. Working in the USA, UK and in other worldwide countries, our awareness raising programme challenges many of the myths and assumptions about mental health issues. We believe recovery is possible for many who are currently not getting the help they need. This is where The Shaw Mind Foundation makes a difference; we don’t want people to continue to slip through the net because they have to wait for care, don’t have funds to access life-saving treatment or live in an area or country that can’t currently access mental health recovery programmes. Mental health doesn’t discriminate; neither should geography or financial status.
About This Cause
We are a dynamic and passionate charity with all funds raised go directly to those in need of our vital support. The Shaw Mind Foundation believe that absolutely every single penny donated helps and can make a huge difference to those who are affected by mental health issues around the world. We stand alongside those currently experiencing mental health issues, and are proud to act as advocate for those suffering. We tackle the stigma and misconceptions that can come with mental health issues, and support those that feel as though they have lost hope. The Shaw Mind Foundation is extremely committed to supporting those with mental health issues in developing countries and socially deprived areas around the globe. It is our aspiration to ensure that treatment and recovery from mental health problems is made available to all, regardless of location, financial situation or the nature of the illness. We are very appreciative of any donation to our foundation. Every single penny goes to those who need it, and those who are desperate for help. We pride ourselves on being a foundation that is independent, free from influence and free from costly employee and senior management structures. This approach is key to our success in ensuring every single bit of money raised directly supports those in need. We are run on a voluntary basis by a strong and experienced team. The Shaw Mind Foundation draws on the knowledge, qualities and experience of leading mental health specialists, the corporate sector, the not -for-profit sector and, of course, the mental health community. Many of the Shaw Mind Foundation team have experienced mental health issues, either as sufferers themselves or as support for those who are suffering. We are therefore 100% committed to ensuring every penny we raise is directed into projects which directly help mental health sufferers and their families. We do this either through our own projects or through other carefully selected mental health charities around the world which are aligned with our own values and ethos. With this approach, we can ensure that our funds fulfil their full potential to benefit the children, adults and families who are experiencing mental health issues. Just as importantly, we can help sufferers find the right path for recovery for them, and can finally begin to make a life for themselves free from the shackles of mental illness. One of the most powerful things a mental health sufferer can do in beginning to aide their recovery is to write about their issues. Documenting their feelings, emotions, mood, urges and sensations has been proven to be a very therapeutic and cathartic experience for many as they begin to developing the foundations of a long term recovery. The Shaw Mind Foundation encourages this by providing resource and support for sufferers through writing courses to sufferers. Sharing a personal story can not only be therapeutic, but also greatly help others facing similar challenges. At The Shaw Mind Foundation; • All donations help – We ensure that all funds raised go directly to those in need of our vital support. Every single donation (no matter how small) helps and makes a huge difference to those who are affected by mental health issues. • We are global – We pride ourselves on being a charitable foundation that is global, independent and free from influence. We are committed to ensuring every donation is placed into the correct projects in order to directly help mental health sufferers and their families. We do this through our own global Shaw Mind projects or by supporting other mental health charities in the UK, USA and overseas where their values and ethos mirrors ours. • We believe that anyone, anywhere can suffer from mental illness – Mental health problems don’t discriminate, anyone can be affected. We ensure every single sum raised directly supports those in need, regardless of where they are in the world, their race, religion, sex, age, class or sexual orientation. We are extremely passionate about supporting those with mental health issues in the work place, residing in developing countries and socially deprived areas around the globe. It is our aspiration to ensure that treatment and recovery from mental health problems is made available to everyone and to those from all walks of life. • We are run by a strong and experienced team – We draw on qualities from the business world, medical clinicians, the not-for-profit sector and of course the mental health community who themselves have had mental health issues touch their life as well as those around them. • We aim to get sufferers and their supporters on the correct path to recovery – Our aim is to help people suffering with mental health issues make a full recovery so they can finally make a life for themselves free from the torment of mental illness. • We are on the side of those with mental health issues – We are advocates for those sufferers, we tackle the stigma that comes with mental health issues and support those that have lost hope.
