About This Cause

The Crisis Centre was established in 2007 to provide a temporary home for motherless babies, including • babies whose mothers died in childbirth until they can be resettled with their families • for abandoned children until they are found permanent accommodation within Uganda • for babies whose mothers have a psychiatric illness and are unable to care for them, until their mother is on treatment and they can be resettled with their families Children are followed up once back in the community until it is established that the family are managing well. The Medical Centre opened in 2012 and provides high quality medical care for any local child, including: • Outpatient and Immunisation clinics • Inpatient Wards for children up to the age of 12 years • Special Care Nursery for premature and sick newborn babies • Nutritional Rehab providing inpatient and outpatient care, also community outreach education and assessment visits • Antenatal outpatient clinic • Rehab Centre for Children with Disabilities providing ongoing physiotherapy and educational sessions for children and their families • Diagnostic Laboratory providing a variety of tests Potter’s Village is part of the Anglican Diocese of Muhabura, and all staff are from the local area. It also supported by long- and short-term volunteers from overseas. Families of children in the Crisis Centre do not pay anything, but the Medical Centre aims to be self-funding, although it continues to receive some support from donors in the UK.
