Mission Statement
PoetsIN is a creative mental health charity founded for people who struggle with their mental health by people who have struggled to. Our Mission Statement: 1. To provide mental health and wellbeing support services through a variety of creative mental health programmes, designed specifically to help those struggling with mental illness by providing tools to reduce the symptoms of mental illness. 2. To provide wellbeing services and programmes to enhance the mental health and wellbeing of individuals with an interest in furthering their knowledge of mental health and provide tools with which to accomplish this. 3. To further work on eradicating the stigma surrounding mental health and the various emotional challenges many individuals face. 4. PoetsIN will continuously strive to maintain a community that is INspiring, INclusive, INformative, and one that recognises the INdividuality in each person, through creative programmes, one-to-one support services, a supportive online community, and a team of caring, professional, and dedicated staff and volunteers.
About This Cause
Who we are: We are the creative mental health charity, PoetsIN. Founded in 2016, we began our journey behind the walls of HMP Peterborough where our two founders wrote, researched, trialled, and refined what is now our award-winning Creative Mental Health Programme™. We use creativity to help reduce symptoms of mental illness, educate people on mental health and wellbeing, and reduce the stigma of mental ill-health. We are honoured to change, improve, empower, and save lives. Since that point, we have expanded upon our services to include a full range of support that is centred around the person and their symptoms rather than their diagnosis. All of our team have lived experience of mental illness and utilise this genuine insight to help others improve their mental health and wellbeing; helping our clients feel understood, respected, heard, valued, and supported in a non-judgmental and safe environment. We proudly work with children, young people, and adults from across the UK and beyond. We have worked for a range of incredible organisations, their clients, students, and employees to reach as many people as possible, including the NHS, Amazon, Mind, the RSPB, Headway, The National Trust, The British Library, and many schools/colleges/universities. We do what we do because we know how it feels to no longer want to be alive anymore. We know how dark our own minds can feel, how hopeless living can be when struggling with a mental illness, diagnosed or undiagnosed. We use techniques that our co-founders have both used since they were young people navigating their world of darkness and trauma, providing the light that so many people struggle to see. In short, we provide tools for life to manage, maintain, and improve mental health and wellbeing and you do not have to be struggling to gain something from what we do. Our clients At PoetsIN, we do not turn anyone away. People from all walks of life have benefitted from the support we provide, from those who are in crisis, those who have a complex history of trauma and disrupted attachment, to those who are seeking new coping skills to maintain their mental health. Over the 6 years we have been working with adults, children, and young people, we have become trusted within professional networks and are proud to be known for our work in specialist fields. - Children looked after - Those NEET or at risk of NEET - Offenders and those at risk of offending - Trauma - Disrupted attachment - School “refusers” - helping young people remove mental health barriers to enable access to education. - Domestic Violence and Abuse - Supporting those who care for someone with a mental illness - Parental/Carer support - Employability - Removing mental health barriers to ensure access to meaningful employment - Those with personality disorders We believe everyone should feel and be supported, and in our six years of operation, we haven’t turned one person away. Everyone deserves equal opportunity of and access to support and it’s our job to find creative and new ways to work with individuals who have often found it difficult to engage with services. For way too long, services expect individuals to meet them where they are, at PoetsIN, we’ve changed this. We provide the flexibility to meet the needs of our clients by meeting them where they are.
