Our mission is to alleviate the effects of poverty on children aged five and under, removing the barriers that hold them back from developing alongside their peers. From providing essential items like clothing, nappies, and prams to offering toys that nurture cognitive and emotional growth, we empower families in need with dignity and compassion.

MammaKind - transforming the lives of young children, one bundle at a time At MammaKind, we are dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty for families with young children, ensuring every child has the resources they need to flourish during the most critical years of their development. Our mission is simple yet profound: to remove the barriers that prevent children aged five and under from thriving and reaching their full potential. As a dedicated baby bank, MammaKind provides essential items that many of us take for granted but that are life-changing for families in need. From clothing, nappies, and hygiene products to larger items like cots, prams, and baby carriers, we create bespoke bundles tailored to each family’s specific needs. These bundles are delivered with care and dignity, ensuring that recipients feel valued and supported. Who We Help MammaKind supports families in South East London who are facing the challenges of poverty, homelessness, and financial instability. Many of the families we assist are referred to us by a network of over 40 trusted partners, including schools, healthcare professionals, and community organisations. We also offer a weekly drop-in service, ensuring direct access to support for those who need it most. Our beneficiaries include single mothers, young parents, and families with insecure housing or immigration status—groups that often experience the greatest barriers to accessing vital resources. By providing these families with essentials, we empower them to focus on building a better future for their children. The Impact of Our Work The early years of a child’s life are critical for cognitive, emotional, and physical development. However, children living in poverty often face significant obstacles, such as inadequate clothing, lack of transportation, and insufficient sleep due to poor sleeping arrangements. These factors can hinder their ability to engage in early education and activities, widening the gap between them and their peers. MammaKind addresses these challenges head-on by providing: - Safe Sleep Solutions: Cots, comfortable bedding, and sleepwear to promote restful sleep, essential for growth and learning. - Health and Hygiene Essentials: Nappies, wipes, and hygiene products to ensure children’s well-being and prevent infections. - Developmental Support: Age-appropriate toys and books that foster cognitive and emotional development, preparing children for school. - Practical Basics: Warm clothing, winter coats, and baby carriers to ensure families can access nurseries, healthcare, and community activities. Since 2020, we have reached over 8,000 family members, providing vital resources and support. In 2024 alone, we supported 2,677 individuals with new and preloved items valued at over £8,000. Each year, we aim to expand our reach and help even more families in need. Empowering Young Mothers In addition to supporting families in crisis, MammaKind runs a bespoke programme in partnership with the NHS Best Beginnings Midwifery Team. This initiative focuses on teenage and vulnerable mothers, many of whom lack support and face social stigma. Through curated antenatal packs and a six-week educational course, we equip these young mothers with the knowledge, confidence, and resources they need to care for their babies. By building trust and fostering empowerment, we help these young women create a brighter future for themselves and their children.
